I have a new Nikon D80 Digital SLR camera. Any good resources to learn how to use it?

I have had a 35 mm SLR Nikon forever but the digital is a small overwhelming!

The fastest and least frustrating way is to take a class in photography using your 35 mm SLR.
The cool business about DSLR’s is you can directly transfer you skills using a 35 mm SLR to the new digital SLR. The convenience of not having to exchange film to use a different ISO or colour balance is perhaps the most helpful of all the features of an digital camera
As far as learning to use the added features found on DSLR’s, just use your users manual and try one at a time until you fully know how it works and when to use it.
Look on page 84 of your manual … this can be a fun tool when you mount your camera on a tripod and shoot multiple exposure on the same frame
On business you may find convenient is to download the users manual to your computer and then use the Adobe Acrobat “find” feature to search for specific features in the manual

the “?” button is the most rockin business ever. anytime nearly anywhere in the menu just press and hold that and it will tell you what it does when to use it. Now if the manual is getting a small rediculous and the “?” button gets dull after awhile pick up a copy of The Digital Photography book by scott kelby. you can order it online and then torrent it if you want to read it today, youll like it i promise!

A class will do you wonders, but most of what you have learned from your 35mm Nikon will take you far.
Here’s a fantastic guide that I suggest you print out and keep for reference. I’ve done the same for every Nikon DSLR that I’ve owned.

Nikon D80 Box

I honestly may maybe not work up the nerve to take it out of the box for seven whole hours after I got it. FYI: The box has been opened now.
i bought a nikon d80 digital camera on ebay i was told it was a usa camera, im not sure it is and want to find out to make sure it is not an import camera due to warrenty issues, if this camera is a import camera nikon usa will not perform service on this unit
Answer by fhotoace
Register it with Nikon USA. If it is not a USA model they will not acccept the registration.

1) Examine the warranty card. If it’s a USA warranty, it will say so. If it’s an “international” warranty without a specific USA warranty, odds are it’s a grey market camera.
2) Check the charger plug on the battery charger. I reckon my D200 charger cord says, “USA” on it.
3) Go to the Nikon’s website and try to register it.
Here’s what Nikon says:
If the deal was just too excellent to be right, it probably was. One of the first indicators that a piece of Nikon merchandise might be Gray Market is if the price is considerably less than most additional resellers.
Additionally, a genuine Nikon Inc. USA product will include an Owners’ Manual and Warranty Registration card in English. It will also include power cables (if applicable) calculated for US stylishness plugs. Any additional language on the printed material or incorrect cables indicates a Gray Market item.
Another indication of a Gray Market product would be photocopied manuals or manually made software CD’s. Nikon Inc. USA always provides professionally printed or duplicated materials with genuine harvest.

Check the serial number. My research tells me that USA imported bodies have serial numbers that start with a “3″. That is validated by what I found on my D70 and D50, as well as this weblink.

Of course, NikonUSA is the final authority.
Hope that helps.
