I want to get a SLR camera SONY A390 but i currently have a Digital Camera Kodak Z981?

I have a kodak Z981 which is incredible zoom at 26x , its 14 mp.. but the SOny A390 is a 14.2 mp, with a 18×55 mm lens… i want a camera for zooming quality and i was wanting to know if i was to purchase an SLR with these features would i regret it, as the zoom quality is only 2x. Which means i cant zoom in on far away objects at all….. any ideas would be great…

Zooming quality, huh?

If you want a one lens solution the lens you will want to get instead of the 18-55 mm would be the 18-200 mm

It will substantially increase your initial investment, but certainly fulfill your needs

I have two Canon dslr cameras – by the way recommended over Sony, and my main lens is the
Canon 28-200 – quick, sharp and fast. It retails for $ 400. So this and a Rebel XS, which I own and highly recommend would be about $ 1,000.

If you’re on a tight budget I suggest you look into a bridge camera instead.

If you think you need a lot of zooming power you don’t want a DSLR, zoom is a lot cheaper in a compact.

Answer by keerok
Do not worry. The Z981 will not be enraged if you get the a390 as its replacement.

The 18-55mm kit lens is actually a 3X zoom lens. Still it’s not even close to 26X. If you are very much concerned with zoom, do not get a dSLR. Repeat. Do not get a dSLR.

Me? I have two dSLRs and the rest of my family has one each. I have taught them not to depend on zoom that much. After all, we could always walk.

Answer by Jack F
To get the same zoom range on a dSLR you would need a 18-450mm lens.

Forget it, you can’t afford it.

But how much do you actually use that zoom? I bet that you will mostly use it at less than 50mm anyway.

With a full-frame CMOS sensor, Sony’s A900 is a digital SLR camera bound to gain attention this year. It’s got souped-up technology that should undoubtedly excite photographers: dual Bionz image processors, anti-blur image stabilization; a 9-point AF sensor with 10 assist points, a high-speed shutter, and a magnesium body to make it a rugged and reliable device. Available for ,000 (body only), the A900 doesn’t come with any lenses, but it launched with one of the
more impressive lenses available, the Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T F2.8 lens (,800). Also, this successor to the A700 can work with most Konica Minolta lenses dating back to 1985. I’m looking at canon, nikon and sony cameras and would like to get a DSLR. I’m ok with buying used, but I’m afraid of buying a cheap/bad camera because I don’t know very much about cameras. Should I buy used, refurbished or new?
I forgot to mention I’m on a budget. I reallyy would like to spend less than 400, used or new

if you want the very best you could go for a canon 5d, but it’ll run you about 2,000 = P. i would recommend getting a canon xsi, t1i, or t2i. these are good entry level cameras. i use a xsi and i love it. I can’t really speak for Nikon since I’ve never owned one. i wouldn’t go for sony though.

I suggest you buy new, unless otherwise you really know the first owner and you trust him/her.
Also, you must consider that DSLR has some of mileage like count, I think the term is actuations. It counts how many shoots you have made, when it reaches the maximum, the camera stops to work.

I think the best bet out there is the D3100, but then I am a Nikon fan. You have to decide for yourself. And don’t go more than the D7000. I believe you are a novice who doesn’t know anything about DSLRs. D3100 or D5000 is the best camera to practice but D3100 has the better video.

The cheapest out there is the Sony
A290 is 441usd
A390 is 500usd
they both good and has 14 megapixel sensors. Don’t underestimate them. I am not sure however, whether those cameras shoots videos.

A Great deal of what you’re asking will be determined by how much you can afford to spend. I would tend tp think of the long term more than the immediate needs & wants you have. You’d probably be best looking for the best focusing options, auto & manual exposure capabilities, resolution and a good sensor to name a few.

The camera condition as a consideration, is one that wouldn’t cause me to lose any sleep over. you can get lucky with a used or refurbished camera, but personally I’d stick to new.

Again my personal choice, after years of usage, would definitely be Nikon.

Look at all the reviews & prices various dealers are advertising & you’ll have a true answer. You may decide to wait awhile to save for what you really want, but when you get it you’ll be happier for a longer time than if you compromised & bought less now and disliked it later.
