I’m trying to find a controller for my Canon HD XH A1 video camera that can adjust the Iris, pedestal and color that’s not on the camera. I want to have an operator using the camera while I sit and control the camera from a different location.

You can get cameras that are controlled via triax cable and remote CCU units, but they tend to be professional models, where you can control shutter, WB and IRIS but also v & h scan, colour painting and gamma remotely.

The XHA1 is not that class of camera. One of the XLH1 cameras has SDI in out and TC in out, but no triax facility. If you want remote engineering then you need a broadcast studio camera.

To the best of my knowledge all you can really do is upgrade your RAM. I’ve heard it’s quite difficult if not impossible to change video cards in most laptops.

If you’ve used your PC regularly and never did some maintenance on it, there are a few manual tricks you can perform to speed your PC up. Some of theme are defragging your harddisk, uninstalling unused programs, updating drivers, removing old registry, error-check your harddisk and more.

See here how to do all the above and for other tips to speed your PC up: http://www.speed-up-pc.org/

I review the new Canon Vixia HF S100 camcorder. Pretty sweet.
