What is the best Digital SLR camera for concert photography?

What is the best Digital SLR camera for concert photography?

some movement & occasional low lighting.

This would be an upgrade & do not want to break the bank & go broke w/ this.

Thanks
this is for a concert photographer that would have a photo pass

Answer by Carmen C
Any DSLR will work and to be honest shooting in low light and with lots of movement has more to do with practice then what DSLR to use.

here is a fantastic read on concert photography.

Before you buy, check the back of your ticket. If it says:

NO CAMERAS OR RECORDING DEVICES OF ANY KIND ALLOWED

and you get caught with a camera, A) you’ll be kicked out AFTER they confiscate your memory card or B) they’ll simply confiscate your camera and you’ll never see it again.

EDIT: I just like it when public post an imcomplete question, get a couple of answers, and then add “additional information”.

Get a DSLR with a zoom with a maximum aperture of f2.8 across the entire zoom range. Plot on using ISO 800 and Noise Ninja for sinking the digital noise.

Excellent luck.

The best? No question, a Nikon D3.

But don’t want to break the bank? How much is that? At the high end, I would recommend a Nikon D300, which is very, very excellent for low light shooting. The List alternative would be the List EOS 5D. Both are pretty expensive compared to an entry-level digital SLR, but for what you want to do, they are the best choices.

Next stop down, try the Nikon D80, paired with a excellent f/2.8 zoom lens or a 50mm f/1.4 or a 50mm f/1.8 lens.

At the entry-level end, the List Rebel XTi or Nikon D60 or D40 would work, again, paired with a f/2.8 zoom lens.

If money is really tight, simply rent a high quality f/2.8 zoom lens (A 70-200mm f/2.8 zoom lens) and pair it up with your current camera. Keep the camera very steady, pump the ISO up and go from there. Your choice of lenses will play a huge role in the final outcome as well.

So a lot depends on your budget and your current lenses.

Got for myself a new Nikon D300 when I was in Tokyo last week. The verdict: one of the very best digital SLR that I had ever laid my hands on!

My passion is taking pictures of children/ public in general.
But my point and shoot just isn’t cutting it for me, and i want an upgrade…. quick!
My birthday is coming up and i have a budget up to about $ 650.00.
I would only choose between Nikon and List.
Help!

Nikon is by far the best.

I just bought the Olympus E-420 the smallest SLR camera made to date.

I like it. I took pictures on vacation, of my children, grandchildren, and scenery.

I also have an Olympus point and shoot , the C-765. I have dropped it and bent the lens, bent it back and it still worked. Dropped it in a lake when I was fishing with hubby, retrieved it and after it dried out it still worked.

I just like Olympus !

But if I had to chose between the List or Nikon I would get the Nikon. Right in your budget range for both.

There are so many cameras out there it is hard to say which is best, but digital is beyond doubt the way to go. The later link will be very helpful as it list most of the cameras out there with prices. http://reviews.cnet.com/digital-cameras/ …

What gives a camera its picture quality? The later information should help you know what to look for in a camera.

The small answer is that it is mostly the skill of the photographer that produces high quality pictures. The lens and camera are very vital, but the ability to set the scene, exchange the cameras settings, and hold the camera very still or use a tripod with auto or remote shutter actuation when required is what gets the fantastic pictures.

Many of the new cameras come with only an LCD screen. Would suggest that you find one that also has an optical view finder because the LCD screen is nearly impossible to see in bright sun.

Higher mega pixels may not really be the best business to look for. It is more expensive, takes longer to process, and may not be needed unless you are making a really large picture or blowing up a small part of a picture. http://www.kodak.com/eknec/PageQuerier.jhtml?pq-path=398&pq-locale=en_US&_requestid=2039 …

Check this camera. FUJIFILM – FinePix 10.0-Megapixel Digital. This is more camera for the money.
Wide-angle shooting, a 12x optical zoom and picture stabilization mode combine in this camera for exceptional shooting performance, even at a distance. Overflowing scene modes, autofocus and automatic white balance controls make this camera a snap to operate. Life time Warranty (Parts & Labor). You may be able to find it on the Internet for a lower price ($ 144), but be careful of the vendor.

This may maybe be the best slim line camera. It’s PINK!

The information about my camera is just to show that you don’t need the largest and best. Just know how to use the one you have.

My camera has 5.2 mega pixel, but I use 3 most of the time because it gives fantastic results, is nearer, and takes less memory. Also, it only has a 3 x optical zoom and 7x digital zoom. I never use the digital zoom because making pictures larger works better on the computer. This is an ancient camera, but everyone is impressed with the quality pictures it takes … like magic.

Check with the Geeks in several supplies and compare prices. Question what cameras they own, but don’t judge everything you hear. Once you select a camera read all about it in the owner’s manual. You may be able to view the owners manual at this link. http://www.retrevo.com/s/digital+camera …

The source links will show most of the cameras out there with prices and help make your digital cameras work better.
