which is better the D80 or D200 nikon slr digital camera?

which is better the D80 or D200 nikon slr digital camera?

Answer by anthony h
It depends upon your needs. Generally, the D200 is considered to be the “better” camera because it will meter with manual focus Nikon lenses, it has a stronger body, and more built-in features like image banks and an intervalometer. It shoots at up to 5 frames per second.

However, the D80 uses a nearly identical 10mp sensor, which is better tuned than the D200, so its output is slightly better. The body isn’t as strong, but the camera is more affordable.

So, if you don’t need one of the extra features of the D200 or the stronger body, then the D80 is the more affordable “better” choice. If, on the other hand, you need a feature that is only on the D200 and not on the D80 (like, say 5 frames per second shooting or the ability to use/meter with older manual focus Nikon lenses), then the D200 is the “better” choice.

I’ve used a Nikon D200 once (it belongs to my friend) and it’s very, very good. The colour, contrast, control over the camera are all splendid. But it depends on your needs. If you need basic (not advanced) features, then go for D80, but if you’re into very high-resolution images, then D200 is definitely the better one.

Also, consider your budget. D200 costs more than D80, but of course, you’ll get extra features from it. I suggest you to consider your needs as well. If you’re planning to go professional in the future, then go for D200. But if you’re planning to use it for family or social events or personal collection, then D80 is enough.

Hope this helps! =)

Testing out the new Nikon D80, which at first shoot I love! On this second shot I managed to get the focus a little more where I wanted :-/ And now to read the instructions and calm down a little after the initial excitement.

One feature from my Fujipix I will miss: the little string that keeps the lens cap attached to the camera. In my pre-digital photo years I used Nikons (happy to get getting back to them) and lost several caps.

This is the sort of camera thing i was looking at:

would this work in australian format and other sort of things?

cheers.

I have a friend from Australia who bought his D80 and his D300 in the USA and they seem to work fine.

I have a few photography friends in AU and NZ and we have never discussed any compatibility issues, so I don’t think there is a problem. They’ve sent me photos that I open with no problem and vice versa.

It’ll work fine.

You’ll need an adapter for the battery charger because the voltage and pin type is different.

The focusing ring from the Australian cameras turn in the opposite direction then one from the USA. ; )

Don’t take this seriously.

If it’s used , outside the warranty period and he packs it well.. fine.

But if it’s new just be aware that the warranty may require you to send it overseas to be fixed it you run into trouble.

If it’s new, you are better off buying one from an Australian dealer that offers an Australian warranty

It will work fine but if the proce is over the threshold it may get picked up by customs and you will have to pay gst on it but i am not sure what the proce threshold is. you will also need an australian charger, so i think it would be better and easier to just get one in australia
