What SD Card for 12 MP Camera + HD Video?
by OzDJ
I am getting a panasonic DMC-TS1 for it’s underwater features, high megapixel quality, and HD (720p) video recording, but I’m not sure what SD (SDHC) card to get for it. Should I get the sandisk extreme, ultra, or standard? My main issue is will the card be good enough to get smooth video and fast pictures?
I’m only willing to spend around $ 20. I don’t want top end performance, just one that works well enough.

Go for the ultra or extreme.

The most important thing to know about a SD card is the speed (class) of the card. Currently Class 6 cards are the fastest cards available, but to add to the confusion there are different levels (data transfer rates) of Class 6 cards. Class 6 cards can range from 40x (6MB/sec) to 300x (45MB/sec). When purchasing a SD card, just remember to try to get the fastest speed possible. For your needs anything that is class 6 – 133x (20MB/sec) or higher should be fine.
* Ultra II—minimum read speed of 15 MB/s (100x)
* Extreme III—maximum speed of 30 MB/s (200x)
* Extreme IV—up to 45 MB/s (300x)
Note that maximum read speed and maximum write speed may be different. Maximum write speed typically is lower than maximum read speed. Some digital cameras require high-speed cards (write speed) to record video smoothly or capture multiple still photographs in rapid succession.

Get SDHC card and class 6 is the fastest transfer rate now and if you also record video, 16 GB would be good capacity.

Panasonic hdc-tm 10 recorded format is MTS format, Windows Movie Maker can’t support MTS, and Windows Movie Maker support WMV format, you need a right converter to convert MTS to WMV, so you can get an hd video camerad videos onto Windows Movie Maker. I am using “RZ Video Converter Lite” to do this well, you can try it by youself, it can convert any videos or audios between any different formats, such as convert MTS to WMV, etc. Try it by yourself.
You can google or yahoo search and download “RZ Video Converter Lite”, easy to use, hope it can help you!

Download AVS videoconverter for free & convert your clips to a format that WMM can handle.

Generally Windows Movie Maker support .asf, .avi, .m1v, .mp2, .mp2v, .mpe, .mpeg, .mpg, .mpv2, .wm, .wmv. If you use Vista it also support .dvr-ms.
So you can convert your video to any of them above, I recommend you a HD Video Converter which can convert HD TS, HD MTS, HD M2TS, HD MPEG, HD WMV, HD MPG, HD MP4, QuickTime HD MOV, HD H.264, HD RM video, etc.
It also can edit the HD movies, such as CUT a video clip, crop the movie, merge several files into one file and so on.
Hope it helps!
