Digital Camera Help! (Nikon s230 and s560)?

I have chose to get my girlfriend a digital camera for graduation. She is a huge fan of the Nikon Coolpix series. After some research I am stuck between the s230 and the s560. I like the fact that the 230 is newer and has a larger screen. But the 560 has a better lens. I am pretty technology savy, but I don’t know that much about cameras. Any help, comparisons, or opinions would be fantastic. Thanks!

I own the S230 and Im disappointed with the model.The reason is that it does not take excellent pictures inside and white spots appears in some pics.

I would go with the Nikon s560 because the lenses are larger and will pick up much more light than the s230.

I was agreed a bunch of used,excellent condition, 35mm cameras because I want to get into classic photography – not digital . Can someone knowledgeable about them please tell me which of these 3 is the best model and why. thanks

2. Minolta XG-A
3. Minolta X-700

You will be able to fine a lot more lenses and accessories for the Nikon N50. I have a small N55 that uses all the lenses that I have for my Nikon digital’s.

Try looking for lenses on craigslist and see what you find … you will be amazed … I reckon the Minolta’s use the same lenses that the Sony DSLR uses.

Why not use more than one, load the additional, with a different film speed.

Since I own three I can tell you all about the Minolta X-700. It is an Aperture Preferred or Programmed or Manual camera. In Program Mode it sets the aperture and shutter for you.

When introduced in 1981 it gave the world of photography TTL* – off film flash metering. The 360PX, 280PX and Auto Macro 80PX flashes were calculated for it. The Power Grip II was calculated for off-camera flash. I have used a Vivitar 283 flash with my X-700s with no conundrum.

It accepts the Motor Drive 1 (aka MD 1) or Auto Winder G.

Lens designated “MD” are needed for the Program Mode. Of course, any Minolta MC (Meter Coupled) lens will work just fine in Manual or Aperture Preferred.

I have never had any problems result all the lenses and additional accessories I wanted on ebay. Affording them is another business but. I currently stable these lenses: 16mm, 21mm, 24mm, 28mm, 35mm, 50mm f1.4, 58mm f1.2, 85mm f1.7, 100mm f4 Macro, 135mm, 35-70 and 70-210 zooms, 200mm, 300mm.

Its one small conundrum is the capacitors inside the body. If they fail you’ll need to send it for repair. I use Garrys Camera Repair (garryscamera.com).

* TTL is nearly standard on DSLRs and many higher-end digicams. Its nice to know that 1980′s technology is still alive and helping public take excellent flash pictures.
