Can you use the Zoom H4n Recorder as a microphone for a professional camera?

I’ve recently bought a professional camcorder (Sony HVR-Z5U), and I was wondering if the Zoom H4n may maybe be used as a microphone with the camera. Is there a way to hook it up to my camera through the XLR inputs and instead of recording anything with the Zoom H4n, it would just be used as a microphone. Is this possible?

pro cameras can usually be set up to accept line level audio input. this is what you would get out of the zoom. the stereo out from the zoom is probably a 3.5 mm plug. you will need a y type adaptor to separate it out into 2 mono channels for the camcorder.

This was taken with my ancient Sony Cypershot. I only posted it to flickr, to see which model exactly it was – didn’t work, flickr’s just saying cybershot :-(

I need to map out which one i need to get, and i need feedback from public that regularly use these items to tell me more about them.

Here are a few questions to start out:

Like/Dislike? why?
Useful? (clean stuff about it)
Would you recommed buying it?
Flaws?

If you need a camera get an acutual camera not the iPad.
The iPad is not meant to be a camera and the camera is only decent so get a fixed camera.
