Can the Nikon D40x use all the kinds of lenses? If not, is this a very big problem? How does it work?
Im plotting on buying a Nikon dslr in Hong Kong and Im confused between the D80 and the d40x. Ive heard that both of them has pretty much the same features except the lens conundrum. HELP

Unless I’m mistaken the D40 and D80 are very similar additional than an upgraded hardware and software on the D80. Your lenses should work fine on any or.

The D80 will work with just about any Nikon lens made since 1959 … Manual focus lenses in manual mode of course.
The D40(x) will use any Nikon AF-I or AF-S made in the past 15 years.
That in a nutshell is the lens compatibility situation.

Nikon DSLR’s from the D80 on up (D200, D300, D3) will work perfectly with every Nikon lens made that has the Nikon F mount.
The D40, D40x, and the new D60 will only autofocus with S and I series lenses that contain autofocus motors.
