Best Buy Credit Card Question - 0% Interest for 3 years?

Best Buy Credit Card Question - 0% Interest for 3 years?

I want to see if I understand these terms correctly before I apply for credit with them. I don’t understand legalese very well, so the terms booklet that was in the application only helped a little. Maybe someone who has a Best Buy card or who understands the terms better can tell me if I’m right or wrong.

The promotion they’re running at this moment is three years without interest on so and so which isn’t important to understanding the card terms. This, of course, does not rule out finance charges. Looking through the booklet, though, made it appear that if I’m not paying interest and I don’t do anything dumb like pay late or go over my limit, then there are no finance charges. In plain english, it looked like it’s three years same as cash, so long as it is paid off within three years.

I asked the person at the counter if I understood it correctly, and they said yes. Of course, you shouldn’t take the customer service guy at his word on something like this, so I’m looking for another opinion. I’d be incredibly grateful if anyone could let me know if my interpretation of the terms is correct or not.

Answer by darceee
ya i have a best buy card which i’ve used several times..I only use it during promotions like the one u described b/c the interest is ridiculous otherwise… just be sure to never miss a payment and have it paid off b4 the end of the 3 yrs… also ensure that u qualify for the promo like sometimes it’ll say” no interest for 3 years on home theatre systems” so if u purchase something other than home theatre its not eligible.. and make sure u meet the req amount .. like purchases over $ 2000 b/c if ur below that then u wont be eligible… plus once u get approved for the card and u pay it’ll say on ur reciept that the purchase amount was under a no interest promo :) good luck hope that helps

Answer by Hello It’s Me
Usually these things work as long as you read and follow their rules. I have made purchases from Rooms to Go, Kay’s Jewelers, Lowes, and Kohl’s with similar plans. I had a minimum monthly payment to make, and as long as it was paid on time it worked. I made all payments on time and never paid any interest.

I think once you are late on one payment they can start charging you interest. They are banking on you being late or not paying the balance when the due date is up. It worked for me since I followed their rules. Just be careful, because most of these places have a high interest rate if you are late just one time.

Answer by The Judge
yeah, this is good for people in debt who are being strangled by their high interests.
They’ll pay your balance for you and now you owe to them and so long as you pay it off in 3 years then you are on the clear.
They are banking on the fact that most people that get into debt aren’t taht considerate so in three years they can start stinging them for all the interests they haven’t paid till then.
It’s a “lemmings-catching-trap” LOL.

Best Buy is offering no interest for 36 months. I need/want a new TV. My credit score is good (around 750) but I’m only 24 years old. I have 2 credit cards now, 1 of which I’ve had for 6 years and have a great history with, the other for only 3 months now, but also a good payment history with. I also have student loans taken out. I am good about making payments on all of my lines of credit. Just wondering if opening a Best Buy card would effect my score that much, if I plan on making payments in order it pay it off in about a year. I’m mainly worried that opening 2 credit cards in 3 months may damage my rating. I am between jobs and will be making minimum payments on all 3 cards until December 1.
It’s a plasma, and I’ve been shopping for about 6 months and this is the best deal I’ve found. The purchase itself I feel good about, it was mainly the opening of the card that had me nervous. I just know how valuable good credit is, and I’ve worked hard to maintain it.
I also know the terms and conditions to the card and the no interest terms, and am good about managing my payments.

Answer by HotRod
Opening up 2 different credit cards in 3 months does lower your credit score only by a few points. My advice is if you really want that television you should wait until late November/early December due to the very low prices of televisions late this year. (This is assuming you will be getting an LCD)

Back to the credit cards, if you are committed and know that you will be able to pay off the Best Buy credit card before the interest kicks in then you should be fine. Another advice, try not to have many credit cards.

Answer by Life Is Better After Retirement
Your score will take a hit but minimal. You cannot apply or get any new line of credit without it hitting your score. It is only 5-10 points and recovers in a very short period of time. 2-4 months.
You have most likely recovered from the last card you opened.
You are aware of the “No Interest” agreement and to not even be a day late with any single payment.
and to have it paid off before the 36th month..

Answer by My Take on It
If you are “between jobs” why are you thinking of buying a plasma TV?

Seems you should wait until you are gainfully employed again before buying luxury items.

Cheap Canon SLR camera?

Cheap Canon SLR camera?

what is the cheapest canon Digital SLR camera right now? I don’t want something to out of date, but i can’t afford the $ 800′s ones. I suppose it doesn’t have to be a canon, but in my opinion they are the best.

At the moment I have a film SLR Olympus that is about 8 years old and just broke, so i was thinking of getting a new one.

Answer by Elvis
check out the nikon D40

Answer by cubfan745
If you need a Canon, you’ll need to look for a used one. B&H Photo sells used gear, I believe they occasionally have older Rebels for sale. They also will sell you a warranty if you have concerns about buying used equipment.

Answer by Colorful L
The cheapest Canon DSLR is Canon Rebel XS.It around $ 550
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001CBKJGG?ie=UTF8&tag=computer0bd-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B001CBKJGG

For under $ 800 you can get better one Canon Digital Rebel XSi 12.2 MP which almost the same camera, but the XSi has more to offer than the XS. Perhaps consider basing your buying decision on how serious you will be taking up digital SLR photography. If you firmly believe that you will take digital SLR photography very seriously in the long run and want a solid entry-level digital SLR camera, then the Canon XSi may be a better choice for you. If price is your main concern and you are only looking for Canon’s bottom entry-level digital SLR model, then the current price of the Canon XS kit is quite worthy of a purchase consideration.

Nikon D80 in my opinion

Answer by OMG, I ♥ PONIES!!1
While we wait for Dr. Sam to finish his coffee (hi Sam!), I’ll just add my vote for the D80. These cameras both have 10 megapixels – at least the Rebel XTi does – and you won’t see much difference in image quality. The D80′s larger viewfinder, larger grip, and one or two extra features do make the D80 a more pleasant camera to use. Both brands have plenty of lenses etc, and a great upgrade path.

Answer by dallasphotog79
Both cameras are great. I prefer the D80, the grip is larger which comes in handy if you have larger hands. The D80 also has a larger screen and the clarity is very good. They both have a vast array of lenses to suite your needs and tons of accessories. Your better off going to the store and see what camera feels best in your hands. Keep in mind both take great shots, you just need to find out what feels the most comfortable for you to shoot with. Hope this helps!

Answer by photo
for me ……i’d go with D80 ….

Answer by Bob the Builder
The D80 absolutely outclasses the Canon Rebel. More frames per second capability, more user friendly and ergonomically designed controls, and larger LCD screen.

Good quality digital camera for $200 or under?

Good quality digital camera for $200 or under?

I’ve recently been looking for an upgrade in digital cameras, and I was hoping to find out what the best digital camera is that’s under $ 200? I’m not looking for anything professional; I just need something that’s 8-10MP, and takes good quality pictures and videos, and doesn’t have bad zoom quality.
I’ve been considering the Canon PowerShot SD1100 IS.

I love my new camera! It’s tiny, which is great for putting in my pocket or even a small purse for going out. I bought it before a recent vacation, and all the pictures came out awesome, even the ones where I handed it to a random person to take a photo of my group. The battery life is great; I used it heavily for the whole week and didn’t have to charge it at all. It starts up pretty quickly, so you can take it out, snap the shot, and have it back in your pocket fast. The image stabilization works great, especially in somewhat low light where a flash would have been embarrassing or unflattering. The face detection also seems to work pretty well, and the auto red-eye correction is nice. I haven’t played with all the special modes yet, but I did manage to take a few nice dusk/night photos with the night mode. I’m a newbie when it comes to fancy camera features, but I did a LOT of research to make sure I was getting my money’s worth, and I couldn’t be happier!

I may be wrong but I don’t think ANY of these cameras are any good. Stay away from them. Choose from among Sony, Canon, Fuji, Nikon etc for quality. Check out Website

PS I don’t know much about E-Bay, but do you know who you’re buying from? Why not buy from a reputable store?
In answer to your last question. dpreview.com their reviews of THIS camera Olympus MJU 810 was NOT good.

Consider the Canon A630 or Fuji F20.

Should I buy a Panasonic HD camcorder?

Should I buy a Panasonic HD camcorder?

I had a sony camcorder for a year but lcd screen broke in 3 times i used it. I bought like 2 8GB memory card, can I use it with hd camera? Will the video look normal on non HD tv? SHould I buy it on ebay? Will it last long because sony only lasted 1year when i only used once 3 months?

Answer by Luke W
if you wanna

Answer by lovelondonlife
Panasonic are a good long established make, along with Canon and Sony considered major players.

If your memory card is an SD or SDHC memory card it should work on most HD camcorders.
I just bought a cheap Hitachi camcorder. I have no Blue Ray HD facility, but I needed HD so I can also use it sometimes for my work. On my laptop the picture looks good, haven’t yet attached it to the TV, but it came with cables to do so directly from the camera.
It is worth noting that HD camcorders use a recently new codec H.264 AMC, which handles the large files easier without quality loss, so although an AVI format, it may not be compatible with the editing, DVD authoring software you have,if it isn’t new, within the last couple of years. I downloaded a cheap conversion package to save me upgrading everything. Also HD generally is sluggish to play and work with if you have to convert back to old school AVI. So you may want to output to something smaller than HD anyway.
Having said that my camera came with simple editing/DVD authoring software, plus direct upload to You Tube, and direct TV leads. So you could do most tasks with what’s in the package, (worth checking). At least you should have a future proof camera then, even if you haven’t got HD now.
All cameras can be plasicy in build these days so I’d get it new, there are some great bargains out there and you’ll at least have the warranty, (don’t fall for any extra cover sales gimmick, as that mounts up). Best read reviews and try in a shop any you might buy. I guess the LCD is vulnerable on them all as the connections between the camera and it get worn with the opening and closing, same as a laptop, the screen often goes first.

*SD memory card refers to ‘Secure Digital’, not to be confused with SD as in ‘Standard Definition’, when referring to Standard and Hi Definition.
(These trade names sure don’t make it simple!)

Panasonics are not bad but my JVC beats my Sony & panasonic hands down so go for a JVC & you won’t regret it.

Answer by Justin
I will always look for a Sony product before any other. In my opinion Sony is the best. Every Manufactor has a product that messes up, Its not the companys fault… Yes the video should look fine on a SD TV, it just wont be as clear as it would be on a HD TV. And in my opinion Never buy any electronics off ebay. No warrenties there. Always buy it from a store near you with the extanded warrenty just incase. Never know if it will mess up down the road.

Midnight Ride – Raindrops on my camera lens, from a mountain bike going through Tyseley (Movie Still).
panasonic hd video camera

This is from a video on Youtube. I put my camera on the front of my mountain bike and cycled along Hagley Road round Five Ways, down the Middleway and on through Sparkbrook towards Tyseley and Acocks Green.

It started raining as I was going along the Warwick Road and this shot clearly shows the light catching the raindrops on my camera lens. Just behind the billboard on the left is the National Railway Museum at Tyseley.

I am hoping to upgrade my video camera in a month and there are so many choices I just cant make up my mind.( RIght now I have a panasonic with no headphone or mic input it records to mini dv and it was like $ 300. ( my new budget will go up to like $ 2000 at the most)

SO I was wondering If any one knew what camera would be a good choice.

The things I like to do with my camera are-
-Put videos on you-tube
-Film Plays and sell the dvds to actors.
-I edit all my movies on final cut express 4
-Fool around and film movies in the backyard.

SO I need a camera that can still do all these things.

Also I was hoping that it would have either one large CMOS or a 3ccd chip + a external microphone and/or headphone jack.

Also Someone told me I should buy and HD camera….I was wondering if this was a good Idea… I don’t own a HD tv. I do believe however that FInal cut express can edit HD and if I do get an HD camera do I get it with tape or a hard drive?

Ay thing on anything about video cameras would be useful.

Brands such as List and Nikon and The Top Cameras of their brands

Answer by layacarea
i just ordered a nikon 6.1 mp d40, one of the best beginners cameras out today. not too pricey any. if you’re going to be shooting wild animals tho, you might want one of persons telephoto long lens, the ones that give you excellent pictures without having to be close up.

Answer by fhotoace
As a former flora and fauna photographer, I can tell you that any company makes brilliant cameras and have the lenses that will support the needs of such a photographer.

NONE will make you into an African Flora and fauna photographer but. That can only come from the necessary schooling in photography and many years working shooting animals in a controlled situation, so you can learn the animals behavior.

Then you can choose a nice Nikon like the D3 or List like the 1Ds, Mark III as well as the lenses you will need for shooting such animals. At a minimum you will need a 400 mm f/2.8 and 600 mm f/4 lens to compliment the camera … why such lenses? 1) most animals are out and about at dawn or dusk and most wild animals have a large scare radius, so getting close can be hard and most of the time perilous.

Unbeleivable price for the Nikon D80. Where is the trick???

Unbeleivable price for the Nikon D80. Where is the trick???

I have found the later price for the Nikon D80 Digital Camera: $ 329.00:

http://www.ccicameracity.com/digital-cameras-nikon-nikon-d80.html

If you go to fixed camera supplies you will find the price is $ 999.00. I have found some additional prices in internet like $ 768, but the one in CCI Camera City seems too cheap, even if it is after rebate.

Does anyone have any comments, experience with this web site?. Does anyone know where the trick might be?

Thanks and regards

it does not come with a lens you have to buy that extra which will run a few hundred dollars

Answer by Morey000
With 100% certainty in the digital camera game-
if a price seems ‘too excellent to be right’- it always is.

There are reasonably a few brilliant and exceptionally competitive on-line retailers that offer fantastic customer service and the best prices. Places like NewEgg and BHPhotovideo come to mind (even if there are others). cci camera city has a rating of 0.31 (on a extent of 0 to 10) at resellerratings.com. (to be apparent: 0.31 is below a rating of ’1′) That essentially earnings that nobody has ever been pleased with their experience with that vendor.

The D80 is certainly a fantastic camera choice. Consider a better place to buy it tho’.

Answer by john p
It is probably a defective camera that does not have a excellent warranty. I would check the company selling it before I would pay a dime.

If you order it and don’t get rip off let us know.

Answer by Ignacio F
Here’s the deal.

You’ll place an order online and you’ll get a call.

The guy will try all kinds of tricks to get you to order a different camera than the one they’ve priced. It will be “made in Malaysia instead of Japan” or it will be “an older batch”…

If you don’t fall for this, they will try the “package deal” where they will charge extra for the strap, charger, software, etc…

If you still don’t bulge and tell them you want what they advertised they will try to sell you some extras. The extras include batteries, memory card (no brand cheap stuff at a very steep price). Since you’re getting the camera you end up saying yes to all the extras. And paying dearly for shipping.

The order ships and when you get the box there’s no camera in it. Just some batteries and some cheap memory cards.

You call them and they tell you that they didn’t have the camera available, but they sent all the additional stuff… But hey, they didn’t charge you for the camera, just the additional stuff.

In the end you will never get your camera and you will end up having bought some really expensive junk with a huge premium for shipping.

Avoid them like the plague, they are well known scammers.

If somebody has a price more than 5% below B&H then they are a scam for sure.

Hope this helps!

Ignacio

I want to buy the Nikon d80 but then I came across the List Rebel xsi and couldn’t choose, so I want to here what you guys have to say?

Answer by fhotoace
The Nikon D80 is an in between camera … between the Nikon D40 and D300. List has no camera in the D80 class. If they did it would fall in between the List XSi and 40D.

It really doesn’t matter what camera you use to shoot, it just has to have interchangeable lenses and be capable of shooting high resolution images.

Answer by DCReed
dpreview.com has a nice way of comparing side by side, feature by feature. They seem very comparable. I like some of the List features more and some of the Nikon features more.

I’d also look at prices and lens prices as the body isn’t going to matter a whole lot if you place a lousy lens in front of it.

Answer by Dr. Sam
Why not debate this for another month or two and wait for Nikon to come out with their replacement for the D80? We’re not sure what it will be or when it will come out, but I judge that it will trump the XSi. It will surely have live view, a dynamic range extension exposure mode, and 14-bit RAW, so it will be even with List there. They have had a few months to dream up the next fantastic business, so let’s just see what it is.

It’s been nearly two years since the D80 was introduced and this is much longer than any product cycle I’ve seen from Nikon.

Answer by Jim M
Functionally, they’re very similar.

But going strictly on build quality, beyond doubt the D80.

I’d say it’s worth the difference in price.

How good are Optical Slave Flashes?

How good are Optical Slave Flashes?

I intend to buy an optical slave flash (the one that detects a light pulse from built in flash in camera and triggers the flash) for my Nikon D5000.

I do not have a master flash hence looking for this inexpensive alternative.

Can anyone using such flash guide me about its Pros and Cons? Also, about the brands available in the market and the best among them?

Looking forward to your suggestions…

Answer by Kevin K
If you by a Nikon SB-600, you can set it up as a slave without buying anything else. Set the onboard flash as master, and it automatically fires the SB-600. This is still more expensive, around 200.00 for the SB-600.

I used to use Vivitar optical slaves. They work fantastic if you’re the only one firing a flash. 2 photographers working closely, and the flashes are always firing. For 200.00 you can pick up 3 flashes and optical slaves, Vivitar 5200, 5600, or 283 flashes are pretty excellent.

Here’s a shot using 3 SB-800 flashes as remotes:

http://cgipix.com/Trees_1_Landscape_Photography_Free_Photos.htm

EDIT- Sorry, thought they place the CLS in all of the cameras, one more reason not to recommend the D5000.

Answer by deep blue2
KEVIN K is WRONG!! Even if the SB600 can be used as a remote using the Nikon CLS system your D5000 does not have the this system and canNOT therefore fire the SB600 from the commander flash on board you camera! The SB600 does not have a dumb optical slave mode, so it will only work on your camera’s hotshoe!! Cameras that have the CLS ability are the D70, D80 D90, D200, D300 & D700.

A fantastic small flash will full manual control is the Yongnuo 460-II – fully manually adjustable in power output, and has two optical slave modes (one of which ignores TTL pre-flashes & one which doesn’t). It only costs around £40 on eBay. I have one which I fire wirelessly off camera using the Yongnuo RF-602 triggers – these are cheap (£27) and reliable (two things that rarely go collectively these days!) again available on eBay. The advantages of using radio triggers over optical is that they have greater range (the RF-602′s have been tested at over 150m!!), they don’t need line of sight (can fire them through walls!) and are less troublesome in bright light (outdoors).

The Yongnuo stuff is pretty excellent & very well loved in the Strobist community. If you want more info on off camera flash, suggest you check out David Leisure activity’s Strobist blog;

http://strobist.blogspot.com/2006/03/lighting-101.html

Additional well loved Strobist flashes are the Vivitar 285HV’s (have to watch the trigger voltage, some can be too high), Lumipro L160, SunPak (more models than you can shake a stick at) and older Nikon speedlights like the SB26 & SB28.

Chateau de Haux
nikon buying guide

View On Black

I visited Chateau de Haux last weekend, and met Peter Jörgensen, a sixth generation vineyard importer/exporter. This chateau is located in the Bordeaux constituency and produces some fine wine (or so I’ve heard, I know too small about the subject to be the judge of that).

Peter and his brother bought this building and made it into the Chateau de Haux in the 80′s and have since been producing wine for its shareholders only. Our company owns some shares and were by that fact allowed on the premises for a guided tour were we learned a fantastic deal of history about his family and the history of its wines.

We got to see the process first hand and finally sat down for a fine dinner in company of some fantastic storytellers. At times, it felt like listening to my grandfather at the bonfire! If you ever get the chance, go to Bordeaux!

What do you reckon Peter is thinking about, watching his vineyard from outside the gates?

bought the d60 after all(thank all for guiding me to extended research..)will have it in a couple of days..bought the package with both VR lenses 18-55mm and 55-200mm..but i can’t seem to find any excellent lenses..quick lenses.. capable in low light situation..i mean the
NIKON AF 50mm f/1.8D would be fantastic..but it won’t auto focus..and i dont know if i would handle that with cool results..i need low f numbers..
what do you suggest?..cheap lenses please..because i am a bit economically dead after the hold..
would it be hard to autofocus and use its full capabilities?..
will have a tripod in some night shots for sure..i am interested into super zoomed cropped low light photos with all detail as possible and noise free…been using lots of small digicams and had an ancient minolta film camera..latest was olympus c-8080..i am not useless in photos..but i would not consider me as more than an enthusiast..i want to improve skills..will i make it with manual focus?..
thank you!
thank you both for commenting!
wish i may maybe get a cheap low f numbered lens..but if i use i tripod and keep trying to focus for ever..i might get it in the end..maybe i will try the nikon 50mm..it is about a 100euro anyways..wish i may maybe get more!

you seem to know lot about photography..

Well if your wanting to get shots in low light and quick focus speeds for things like indoor sports, a manual focus lens isn’t ideal for these type of shots. You wont be able to get things in focus in time and every tiny second counts with action shots in sports with quick movements.

The AF-S DX VR Zoom-NIKKOR 55-200mm f/4-5.6G IF-ED can range from $ 200.00-$ 300.00 and is a excellent lens for action shots in low light. Its practically made just for this. It even has a Vibration Reduction (VR) so you wont have to worry about getting vibration in your picture when you need to pull out the camera really quick and take a shot.

Answer by OMG, I ♥ PONIES!!1
Hey man, I thought I recognized you. Nice hold, that D60 kit. I hope you delight in it.

As for a quick lens, I’m sorry to say you’re screwed. As you know, the fastest lenses are primes, like that 50mm f/1.8. But only a few primes will autofocus on a D60. Like the Nikon 60mm f/2.8… which is a fantastic lens but completely useless for your intended purposes (since f/2.8 is not nearer than a excellent zoom lens, and at $ 570 it’s not cheaper, any.)

Manually focusing a 50mm f/1.8 with the aperture set wide open is an exercise in frustration. The viewfinder of the D60 just isn’t made for it. I’d advise public who want to try it anyway to spend an extra $ 100 on a tear prism viewfinder. See these guys if you want to go that route: http://www.katzeyeoptics.com
The only two exceptions to this rule, are:
1) if you’re subject is always more than say, 25 feet away. Looking at my own Nikon 50mm f/1.4 lens, that’s about the distance for infinity focus. So in that case, you can set the focus to infinity and place it there.
2) If you have the camera mounted on a tripod and your subject is stationary. In that case, you have all the time in the world to nip the focus. And if you have all the time in the world, the shutter speed doesn’t really matter… so you might as well use your slower zoom lenses.

I don’t know what you intend to shoot, but here’s why I use my 50mm. Firstly, I use it when I want a razor thin depth of field. If you want to take a likeness where the eyes are in focus and the nose and ears are a blurry mess, this is your lens. Secondly, I use it for street photography when my zoom lens is too slow. Since I’m a bone idle bastard but, I’ll keep using my zoom lens until I have to crank the ISO beyond 1600. At that point, I’ll switch from my f/2.8 zoom at ISO 2000 to my f/1.4 fill in at ISO 500. (In this case the ISO goes down by 2 stops, the aperture goes up by two stops, and the shutter speed remains constant.) From there, I’ll start turning up the ISO again on my 50mm lens. In practical terms, this earnings that I never use my fill in at an ISO lower than 500, which is not noise-free. Here’s a couple of examples from my D200 – these pictures were not brushed up with noise ninja or anything:
f/1.8 at ISO 1000: http://www.elswhere.info/images/asia2/019_JEF0003.htm
f/2.2 at ISO 1250: http://www.elswhere.info/images/elswhere3/image0013.htm
These pictures are grainy, the white balance is shot to hell (should’ve used a custom white balance or RAW) and from a technical point of view, they’re crap. But I like them… they capture the moment and to me, *this* is what the 50mm f/1.4 was made for. For night time cityscapes and such, I’ll set the camera on a tripod and use ISO 100 with f/8.

Answer by Dr. Sam
OMG, look who’s back on the boards!

Part of my stock answer here might help you. You CAN use a non-autofocus lens on the D60 and it’s really reasonably simple. If you don’t want to trust your eye, read this:

If you check www.nikonusa.com for “AF-S” lenses, which are ALL 100% compatible with the D40, you will find 28 lenses, including 13 “VR” (vibration Reduction) lenses and one right macro lens with “VR”. There are another 25-plus lenses in the current catalog that provide all functions except autofocus as well as many (maybe dozens) “out of print” lenses that will work just as well.

Especially this part…

In addition, even if these lens will not autofocus, most of them will still give focus confirmation. From the D40 manual: “If the lens has a maximum aperture of f/5.6 of nearer, the viewfinder focus indicator can be used to authenticate whether the part of the subject in the selected focus area is in focus. After positioning the subject in the active focus area, press the shutter release button halfway and rotate the lens focusing ring until the in-focus indicator is showed.”
