What is the best digital camera to buy?

I am looking to buy a digital camera to give as a gift, ideally I want to spend $ 100 or less but I was also looking at the List PowerShot A1100IS 12.1 MP Digital Camera which goes for $ 130. I would like something in the 10-12 MP range and a 3-5X Zoom, which one should I buy?

At $ 100 or less your gift isn’t going to last very long.

One business to always keep in mind, quality is always expensive. These devices are expensive to build so they’re expensive to buy.

That said do some research here – an brilliant company with lots and lots of choices.

Excellent camera that I would suggest for under $ 100 is Nikon Coolpix L20 10MP with 3.6 Optical Zoom and 3 inch LCD or Fujifilm FinePix J28 10MP Digital Camera with 3x Optical Zoom

this is my friend shooting the gate in front of me , he is a Thai who just bought one of my 3 rebel XTIs.

I kept the best one of 3 for for myself and I traded the worst one in for my new 40D.

The 40D is a much better camera but as considering the fact that all digital cameras become obsolete in a year , maybe it is more wise to buy a better lens than a camera.

That said , if you are shooting an action with a List , the 40D or 1Dmark2 N is your best bet.

UPDATE: now , I sold my 40D to him and I sold my 2 XTI to my sister and dad , I have 2 copies of 50D and 450D for for myself, I also use my Nikon bodies D300 and D80 but I am thinking of selling these 2 Nikons and 450D and get Oly E620IS and List 5Dmark2, for me I reckon the Canon5D2 is the best value camera considering its price and double purpose characteristics ; a excellent 21mp camera at full res mode and a fantastic low light cam at SRAW mode, and I have 4 lenses for this body , so I may just get the 5D2 with the 24-105f4L , which I accidentaly sold for the EF70-200f4LIS……the 24-105f4, 85f1.8USM and 70-200f4LIS make a fantastic fantastic kit with the 5D2.

i have been considering the List digital rebel but don’t know too much about any additional cameras. Help!

The rebel is a perfect camera. My cousin is into photography and he says the Rebel-Series is the best camera’s out. Look at this website for kits and cheaper prices.

try a review site such as five.tv/gadgetshow and look up past reviews. they tested cameras in the last series.

If you have no experience at all with film or digital SLR cameras, then the Rebel would probably not be a excellent choice.
It all depends on whether you want to lug around the weight of an SLR (plus an extra lens or two).
But, if you are pleased with a non compact, then the Rebel would be excellent. But be warned…the kit lens that comes with it, is positively poor…so you need to buy a better lens, which will cost more than the camera body alone.

Nearly any excellent compact digital camera would be perfect to use because of it’s size.
One with a high optical zoom (10x, 12x) would be a very excellent choice.
Look at List S3 IS, Sony H2 or H5 (these cameras are not ultra compact)
Fujifilm Finepix F30 would be the best compact to use, particularly for low-light and indoor shots of churches and museums etc (using high ISO, handheld, no flash). Because the use of flash is mostly prohibited.

Also, make sure you have plenty of memory with you…because the last business you want is to run out of storage space.
A portable HD storage device is a excellent thought, because you can easily upload your photos to it on a daily basis..so you never run out of card memory. My husband and I shot at least 10GB of photos when we went to Europe last year, and found the portable HD invaluable.

I completely disagree w/ Petra. I bought a 300D before going to Hawaii and had no problems. I used it for a month or so before my trip and got familiar enough to be comfortable.

Check out the XTi, which is an incredible camera. You can get the body only for around $ 700. A 28-135mm IS lens is a fantastic walk around lens. If you get a kit lens (18-55mm), it does work well for wide angle shots.
