Should I buy a CANON 450d digital SLR camera NOW or after Xmas?

Should I buy a CANON 450d digital SLR camera NOW or after Xmas?

I am thinking about buying a CANON 450d digital SLR camera with the standard 18-35mm Lens. I need to know a few things:

1. Should I buy it NOW (£438 lowest price I’ve found in UK) OR wait till after Xmas (Sales)?
2. Would any Sale Price be likely to be much lower £100? or just £20-30? Maybe somone has experience of purchasing in yearly sales.
3. Will the List 450d be likely to be superseeded in next few months with a more powerful similar camera? Thus should I wait for a new model? Any news on the grapelines about new List models (especially maybe cameras with more than 12.2 Megapixels in the £500-700 range?

I am a Graphic Designer and need to hold the best camera I can in the £500-700 range that will give me the Highest Image Resolutions for High Quality PRINTED images for Direct mail/Posters.

I cant afford a Standard Format Professional Camera (20 Megapixels+) and just wonder if any new List/Additional models are due out soon?

Many, many thanks for any help!!!

I reckon you answered your question when you said “I am a Graphic Designer and need to hold the best camera I can in the £500-700 range that will give me the Highest Image Resolutions for High Quality PRINTED images for Direct mail/Posters.”

You need it NOW. Any savings you would get by delaying your hold (which likely won’t be that much), can easily be made up by having a product (your graphic designs) to the market quicker. The additional option is to delay your hold until it’s on sale and rent gear as you need it. I highly doubt you’ll be able to rent a camera and lens for less than the savings you’d get by delaying your hold.

The top of the line professional cameras (The EOS-1D series) are likely to be replaced next. The Rebel line still has several months before a replacement will probably be announced.

1. If your boxing day sale are anything like they are in Canada I’d probably wait.
2. I know with your VAT prices aren’t very comparable between here and there. Here I would expect the price to be around $ 75 cheaper on boxing day but I don’t know if that would be the case there.
3. The XSi (450D) is about 9 months ancient. List tends to upgrade its line every 18 months. If you want to wait for the next iteration of the camera you’re going to have to wait at least 9 more months.

To be honest the 450D shouldn’t be terrible for what you’re doing. If you’re careful and take your pictures in-focus you should be able to use them for all direct mail and all but the largest posters. If there comes a situation where you’ve been commissioned to do a large poster you may maybe simply rent a high-end List camera for a day or two.

Buy it now – I would not judge you can get a significant money off after xmas. I reckon you really can get a better price before xmas.
Check out the http://www.digitalcamerakingdom.com – they usually have pretty excellent deals.

What do you reckon? Answer below!

I said www.flickr.com/photos/mikebaird/5076413065/ was the BEST of the eight shots (even though it depicts less action it is much sharper in focus as seen in the first sizes) – do you agree?
