What is the best compact digital camera? I'm looking for a compact digital camera with a very high quality.?

I have tried Sony CyberShot DSC-G3, Nikon Coolpix and Fuji. They all SUCK, they produce grainy pictures and blurred photos sometimes. I want a crystal clear quality that makes pictures and close-ups look good. Price range is not important. Suggestions?

Any of the Canon IXUS cameras – they might be branded differently in the states but they’re about as good as it gets.

Surprised you had trouble with the Nikon, that was the other brand I was going to suggest – Nikon and Canon are usually much better than the others.

Try a Canon PowerShot SX30, or SX130, or SX230. They all take very nice pictures.
The SX30 has a 35x zoom, 14.1MP and can focus on something touching the lens.
The SX130 has a 12x zoom, 12.1MP and can focus on something 1cm away from the lens.
The SX230 has a 14x zoom, 12.1MP and can focus on something 5cm away from the lens.
The SX30 looks almost like a DSLR, the SX130 is a chunky compact, and the SX230 looks like a compact.

Look for the Panasonic Lumix LX5 or the Canon S95. Both have claims to be the best compact camera around right now, personally I would go for the Lumix.

the problems don’t lie with the camera, but with you. Are you sure you are using the camera correctly?

in any case, the best compact cameras are the following:

Fujifilm X100 ($ 1200)
Leica X1 ($ 2000)
Canon G12 ($ 450)
Nikon P7000 ($ 420)
Canon S95 ($ 400)

you have to learn how to use your camera correctly.

Also – I’m brand new to digital cameras – will I need a USB cord also? thank you!

This is the one that I have except mine is black.
You will need a USB and you need SD cards. I have both.

I know that the camera came with a USB cord, I had to buy the SD card.
