Thoughts on Olympus Digital Cameras? *10 Points*?

Thoughts on Olympus Digital Cameras? *10 Points*?

I’m plotting to buy an Olympus digital camera this week (VG- 140 or VG- 310 )

and I just wanted some reviews from you guys. I originally had a Nikon Coolpix which was excellent but I want something different. I like the Olympus because it looks excellent, priced reasonably and has the pin drop effect – I just want to cross check if the quality is alright etc. I want to mainly use it for social events with friends, self potraits etc

Thanks for any help

I work on Redstone Arsenal and know a lot of professional photographers that any work there or on previous bases. Nearly all of them prefer List Rebel series cameras to all others. Recently bought the T1i for my wife and she likes it (I like it too). Super quick, clean pictures, even takes movies in 1080p.

The guy above has never held an Olympus in his hand as you can clearly see. Public mostly buy List and Nikon, because they don’t know what else to buy.

Well, I own an Olympus DSLR and a semi compact (PEN series) Olympus camera. They are both fantastic in their own way. Image quality is on par with Nikon and List, so is the reliability.
Here is a picture I shot with my Olympus PEN

Get Olympus, you won’t be disappointed.

I am torn between these 3 choices
Olympus SP-800UZ 14MP Digital Camera with 30x zoom
List PowerShot SX20 IS Digital Camera/12.1 Megapixels20x Wide-Angle Zoom Lens
Nikon Coolpix L110 12.1 Megapixel Digital Camera with 15x Optical Zoom

Basically trying get the “best bang” for my buck, with ease of use and quality
so far I am leaning towards the Olympus for its MP and zoom, but the others seem right there in the brand and qualities
Please help!

Go with List my friend. They are always reliable.
All three brands you have narrowed down to are very excellent brands, I personally like List. Canons can have intricate instructions but their zoom quality is fenominal.
As far as simplicity of use – Olypus beats List and some of Nikon in Digital photography.
Pertaining to zoom and quality of shot – List is the way to go.
But that is personal preference.
To Digital – you can any go with Olympus or List, they both have fantastic distinct features.
Best of luck in deciding!

Don’t let pixels be a business, unless your plotting on printing billboards or digitally zooming in (cropping) less is really more. this is because when you try to cram 14 million pixels onto an image sensor the size of your pinky nail the light can in simple terms hit the incorrect pixel making digital “noise” if you look at sony, nikon, list’s top point-and-shoot models from last yr to this yr you will notice this years top of the line are all in the 9-10mp range where as last year it was “who can have more” and all boated 14+mp. zoom is a excellent business, but keep in mind that at 30X a small hand movement on your part is a lot of movement 400yards away or where on earth your subject is. so blurry pics will follow without proper light and maybe a tripod. of the three you’ve narrowed it down to I’d say Nikon. they do well in low light and all use glass lenses it also feature VR (Image Stabilization) do yourself a favor go to a camera store a real camera store not a “huge box” and beyond doubt not online. talk with a sales guy and see what feels right its like a car you can like the way it looks but if the seats uncomfortable then u wont want to drive it… also a community camera store can offer advice after the hold something you just cant get online or at a huge box.

I would not let the “extra” MP of the Olympus persuade me. But the Olympus is a fantastic choice and so is the List Sx20 IS. I have not seen or handled the Olympus. But another business I like after reading the spec’s is that it does not take AA’s. AA’s have been herald as the greatest as you always find Alkaline’s in a pinch. But I have a small Pentax Optio camera which uses a similar battery to the Olympus and the battery seems to last forever. I personally like the swing out LCD screen on the List SX20 IS. I am not a fan of Nikon as it seems anything less than a professional DSLR just does not measure up.

So the ball is back in your court, you have to handle both the List and the Olympus and choose which is more comfortable to hold and see through. Place of zoom and operation of same is very vital as to comfort also.

Thanks for contraction down your choices to three cameras. Shows you have been doing your homework.
