Q&A: Please criticism Sony digital cameras.?

Q&A: Please criticism Sony digital cameras.?

What makes Sony digital cameras horrible?
Do they develop their own CCD? Lens?
Or are they just borrowed and rebranded?
Exterior casing?

Answer by digital camera tech
Sony makes near all the CCD’s for near all the major camera manufacturers. (Execpt for List).

Any manufacturer that sells a camera for $ 150 or less likely didn’t make it.

I despise sony’s customer service. They have a terrible track-record with batteries blowing up… CCD’s failing (for all manufacturers). They also have an fascinating nack of charging customers for repairs that should be free. If you ever give them your credit card they will charge you every time you send something to them (regardless if you gave them authorization to charge you or not). They out-source just about everything they do (camera repairs are handled by Precision Camera in Connecticut, customer service is handled by foreigners, record repairs are often done in mexico for near-slave labor wages).
When they took over Minolta’s digital camera division they tripled the cost of the parts (battery door that was once $ 15 was suddenly $ 45!). They trained their employees to discourage the customer’s from having their Minolta harvest repaired and instead offered Sony digital cameras as replacements (at a pro-rated cost). They finally completely stoped supporting Minolta harvest altogether (though I don’t know if Minolta knows or cares).

They are heartless, cruel and the definition of everything evil. Kinda like the Walmart of the digital world.

Sorry… I needed to get that out.

P.S. Even if your camera or camcorder fails because of their poor design (faulty CCD) they will still charge you. Only after you place up a fight and tell them how you know their CCD’s are faulty and that there is a service advisory out on them will they do it for free… if you are lucky.

Have you seen the Sony DSLR? It is one of the better digital camera’s I’ve seen. I like it over the List Rebel xt/xti.

The Sony DSLR is made with Minolta parts, so before you entirely bash sony check out that camera.

Also, I’ve seen a few sony’s that are better than some Casio’s and List point and shoot cameras.

“The February 2007 issue of Well loved Photography has just come out and they compared the top 10 MP DSLR’s. Look and see who came in last by a LONG shot. Sony was last place in 3 out or 4 categories.

“I took the scores and ranked the cameras similar to the way Formula 1 gives championship points. I just gave 5 for 1st place down to 1 for last place, splitting the difference when cameras tied in their catagories.

“They evaluated Image Quality (charitable this twice as much weight as anything else), Ease of Use, Control, and System Flexibility.

“The final order and my scores are:

Nikon D80 – 17.5 points
- BEST in Image Quality, Control and System Flexibility
List Rebel XTi – 13.5 points
- Tied for best in System Flexibility
Pentax K10D – 11 points
- Tied for best in Ease of Use
Samsung GX10 – 11 points
- Tied for best in Ease of Use
Sony Alpha 100 – 7 points
- LAST in Image Quality, Ease of Use and System Flexibility.”

Before flash memory and USB ports existed, digital cameras stored their images on an internal 3½-inch floppy disk drive. Yes, a floppy disk camera! This Sony MVC-FD7 camera was introduced in late 1997, and is calculated much like Sony’s camcorders of the time — it even uses the same battery. With 10X optical zoom and autofocus, the quality of the optics is very excellent, but in order to fit about 20 photos on one 1.44 MB floppy disk, the image files are compressed to such an extent that they always turn out fuzzy and grainy — but no worse than any additional digital camera from the ’90s.
