Digital SLR Camera, Canon Rebel XSI or Nikon D60?

Digital SLR Camera, Canon Rebel XSI or Nikon D60?

I’m a beginner looking to switch to SLR cameras. I have found excellent deals on both the XSI and the D60. Which one is better? Please give me as much comparison info as you can as this is a huge business for me. I would be buying the 55-200mm zoom lens for any camera.

I’ve had Nikons since the 70′s and still like them. would recommend the D60 by Nikon. The D60 is a fantastic entry level DSLR. It will let you have control over your shots to go with your skill level. Everything from a bendable program mode where the camera does many of the functions to a full manual mode where you set everything as you want it. It give excellent quality pictures. The D60 give you a number of things you want. It has newer firmware and image processors, calculated for the 10 mp sensor. It has an “Active Dust Reduction System with Airflow Control “. Nikon not putting a system on the D40 to deal with dust is one of the largest drawbacks I see to the D40 ( though I reckon its still a fantastic camera for the money) If you exchange lenses dust will get in and the camera needs a system to deal with it. With the D60 you get a VR lens. That will help with low light situations ( they may offer that now with the D40 but originally it was not) . The D60 has Adaptive Dynamic Range. Nikon calls it “Active D-Lighting,” it lets you save some highlights that my otherwise be lost. It has a newer better metering system than the D40.

Some public will try to make a huge deal about the fact that some older design lenses will not autofocus on this camera. The AF-S and AF-I will autofocus. Additional lenses will work fantastic also you just have to manually focus them. There are plenty of lenses in the nikon line that will autofocus so you will alway be able to find a lens in the range you want that autofocuses. But if you don’t mind manual focusing you can get some fantastic lenses alot cheaper. The autofocus in the lens is nearer and smoother than autofocus in the camera body. With the silent wave motors in Nikor lenses charitable some of the fastest focus times

In the end you will have to test both in a camera store and see which one suits your shooting stylishness, fits in your hands the best and is simplest for you to steer through their menus

Make a wise choice!…I bought a sony A200, the best and cheapest entry dslr level in the market and better reviewed than list and Nikon’s entry levels!..A300 is the same but with live view thru the lcd screen!..A350 has horrible noise at 800 and 1600 iso!..

I am going through the same dilemma. But i reckon that I am going to go buy the Nikon D60 at Costco, it comes with the 55-200 lens and a carrying case.

is there much benefit with the D3000 over the Nikon coolpix L110? I can’t spend more than what the D3000 costs, and that’s nearly stretching it. links below

The D3000 is a dSLR. The L110 is a PNS.

Answer by fhotoace
It depends upon what YOU call much.

How about that the D3000 has a sensor that is over 15 times larger than the L110?

How about that the D3000 can use lenses (additional than persons you listed) from extreme wide angle to super telephoto as well as specialty lenses like macro, fisheye and perspective control?

How about the incredible white balance options including fine tuning?

There are many more features that the D3000 has that will provide you with years of producing incredible photos … all controlled by you, not the camera unless you choose to let it.

The 18-55 mm and 55-200 mm lenses will give you nearly everything you will need for the first few years you learn how to use the fine D3000. The 18-55 mm; landscapes, group shots and head and shoulder portraits. The 55-200 mm from head and shoulder shots to sports, action and some flora and fauna.

That should give you some things for your research.

Which camera you need depends on what you want to do with it. If you just want a slightly more advanced camera than a basic compact that still behaves like one, then the Coolpix is for you.

If you want to learn the craft of photography, than go for the D3000. This will give you a (small) range of lenses to learn with. There’s no point getting the DSLR if you are not going to use it in manual mode, in this case.

It’s priced the same as the still-available D5000, which is in many ways a better camera. And with the exception of record, which many users don’t care about anyway, it’s very similar to the much cheaper D3000. So while the D3100 isn’t a terrible camera, and for the most part holds its own against competitors from additional manufacturers, it still pales in comparison with its own line mates. …
