Computer cant detect my Sony Camcorder hardware through firewire?
I’ve tried using the USB firewire cord to make a conneciton between my Sony Digital 8 Camcorder – Model # is DCR-TRV460. I’ve tried it on both XP and Vista, and cant seem to get the computer to upload the videos that I have on the tape inside of the camera.
I’ve tried to download the drivers off of the sony esupport website, no such luck in getting this thing to work.
Any suggestions or comments are appreciated.

There is no such thing as a “USB firewire cord”.
USB is USB – and not Firewire.
Firewire is Firewire (or IEEE1394a or DV or i.LINK)… and not USB.
A firewire to USB converter/adapter will not work.
The Sony DCR-TRV460 is digital8 camcorder and can be connected using the same method miniDV camcorders use – with a firewire port in your computer and a firewire cable – not USB.
If your computer does not have a firewire400 port, hopefully it has an expansion slot so you can add one.
Since you did not tell us what computer you are using, we have no way to know if it has a firewire port or an expansion slot. USB is not supported for digital video transfer which is why you can’t find any drivers.

it is either USB or FIREWIRE not both. then you have to have a video editing program your computer that will capture the video. maybe one came with your camera?

Both the previous answers are correct, but you can buy “firewire to USB” cables – they don’t work!!

How many DEN members (& staff) does it take to find the Firewire port on a Sony digital camcorder? Only one, but the you have to find her.
Of course more than one of us took pictures with the intent to blog the confusion.

defenitely, when you connect the camcorder go to videos on the PS3 menu and the memory card on your camcorder should be on the menu. Then if you hit either select or the triangle button on the PS3 it would give you the option to copy the info onto the hard drive. However, the PS3 doesn’t play all video formats so you’ll be able to save it for sure, but you may not be able to play it on the PS3

Special Report: Sony stumbles: Did Stringer’s makeover fail?
TOKYO/NEW YORK (Reuters) – Had Sony stuck with the Airboard portable computer it launched in 2000, Satoru Maeda rather than Apple’s Steve Jobs might have been feted as the creator of tablet PCs.

Fake “name brand” camcorders are back again on eBay, so buyer beware! Fraudulent vendors are selling cheap generic Chinese made camcorders with “Sony”, “Panasonic”, and other famous brand names on them. Most of these claim to be “MiniDV” even though they actually use SD cards — and they often come packaged with a fake, non-functional SD card as well. So protect yourself from getting ripped off, and always double check the brand and model number to make sure it is a legitimate product. There are also some laughable imitation brand names showing up, like “Cansonic” and “Samsonic”.
