IMO you made a good choice. Sony has their version of image stabilization in the camera body. You can use every Minolta Maxxum AF lens made since 1985 and have the benefit of image stabilization with them.
If you are interested, you’ll find a nice selection of Maxxum AF lenses on eBay and at keh.com or bhphotovideo.com or adorama.com.

You don’t say what model Sony alpha you bought, they make an increasing range of models.
This is a good thing as you will have a good upgrade path for the lenses and accessories you acquire for the Sony system.
