What is the best car to buy in NY and drive to CA.?

Here’s the deal: I plot to glide with my daughter, niece and nephew to NY. From there I want to buy a car, pick up our camping gear, and travel across the US returning home to Orange County CA.

I want to buy a car that normally sells for less there than here, so I can turn around and sell it for more here when I restore. I’d like something that is rated as reliable by Consumer Reports and I’d like it to be economical. A manual transmission would be nice too — one less business to go incorrect. And I’d like to pay less than $ 8,000 for it.

Any excellent suggestions?

The best cross country roadtripping car for four public will be a Volvo station wagon. Plenty of storage, mpg same or better than a minivan.. A smooth ride with brilliant seats, and, if you can hop a bus upstate 4 hours to Ithaca there are plenty of FINE used, perfectly working volvos well under 8 grand that will make the trip.

But about selling this vehicle for more than you paid……you will have to compare the car in questi0on in the two zip codes in question at Nadaguides.com and add what, 3000 miles to the Orange County value? sounds right.

Honda Accord, Toyota Camry, Nissan Altima, Mazda 626, Nissan Maxima, Hyundai Sonota, Toyota Corolla, Honda Civic, Kia Optima, Mitsubishi Diamante/Galant, Subaru Legacy/Impreza, VolksWagon Jetta/Passat.

Of course, for $ 8 thousand, all of these will be older models.
Of all of these, I would recomend getting any, Toyota, Honda, Nissan, or Subaru. But, if you do drive it back California from NY, then that will even make things worse for the price, not only are you having the value taken away even more from the miles your putting on it, but once you drive it off the lott, the value of it increases of 26%, thats maybe $ 5,000 dollars? Anyway, sorry to say, but I seriously doubt that your going to sell the car for more than what its worth in CA. It doesnt matter where you are selling or buying a car, the only business that matters is gas mileage, miles on the engine, how ancient it is and how the body condition is.
You arnt going to sell that car for 8 thousand if you paid 8 thousand for it, its going t be sold for less.

a car that has wintered in the east or the north NEVER has greater resale value than a desert car (southern california). The metal corrosion from salting the roads is horrible (salt to melt ice and snow. That’s why public in snow regions buy new cars every 4 or 5 or 6 years and desert dwellers drive cars until the wheels fall off.

I have a small over/under 3,000 dollar budget. I would like a deck width of atleast 34” and up to 42”. I know the toro at home depot is a excellent buy and is ranked high by consumer reports. Is there any dixon, exmark, hustlers, etc for under 3,000? Also does anyone know a website for used zero turn lawn mowers besides craigslist and ebay?

I’ve seen John deere zero turns for 2999 at Lowes. I personally would never buy a John Deere but for a small budget they are a excellent buy.
