Your gonna need a firewire cable because that usb cable that comes with it is crap and only excellent for transporting photos. If you have Windows XP there is some pretty decent software that comes already preinstalled called “Windows Movie Maker”. There are also some others in which you can do a search on google for but Windows Movie Maker has always worked for me along with the firewire cable. Any electronics store such as Best Buy or Circuit city can direct you in the right size firewire for your camera.

You do not want to use a USB cable – if you expect the best quality transfer you MUST use a firewire cable.

Depending on the model and the features available in your camcorder model, here are a few things that you can do to achieve your objective:
1 — If you have firewire port in your camcorder, get a firewire card installed in your PC and then by the s/w provided with the camcorder, transfer the video onto the pc.
2 — If your camcorder supports USB streaming, then you can you the USB port on your PC to get the video transfered onto your PC.
3 — If your PC has a TV tuner card, give the digital o/p of your camcorder to this tuner card and then get the video transfered onto your PC.

Fusion camera that simultaneously shoots full HD video and 9-megapixel digital stills.

I have a Mac and use iMovie and heard that transferring from the camcorder’s format into iMovie is a hassle. Would this be the same with any hard drive camcorder, or some thing specific with this JVC. I was going to get the 20 GB hard drive. I only plot on by it for family videos, do you reckon I’d need a larger hard drive?

I don’t know about transferffing to a mac but I have that same one your talking about and have no problems with windows so I see why it should be any problems for mac all your doing is photocopying and pasting the video files to the pc as for the 20gb you can hold up to 7hrs of video it just depends on the quality settings. I always set mines to the max so I get about 2-3 hrs or high quality video. Any other question just pm me.

I just got GZ-MG27U for Christmas and am VERY DISAPPOINTED with the software for Mac so far. Upon launching the application, I get an error the following error:

“A necessary library is not installed”

You can Google that error and find others are getting the same message. The software maker ( not JVC ) states that it is compatible up to Mac OS 10.3.9. If you are by Tiger (10.4.x) or plotting on upgrading to Leopard (10.5 ) soon, BEWARE of JVC’s software.

I plot on calling tech support in the next few minutes when they open to question about future enhancement. Will bring up to date or post another msg if I get excellent news.

********** HERE’S THE FIX************
I just found out the answer, and you won’t believe the “fix” for it.

Apparently the Capty software installer is not very excellent (obviously) at installing Mac OS X software. One of the file’s permission settings are off.
INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Locate your “Capty MPEG Edit EX for Everio” application ( doubtless under Applications folder if you are organized )
2. Control-Click (or Right-click) on the application and choose “Show Wrap Contents”
3. Open the folder inside called “Contents”
4. Open the “MacOSClassic” folder ( why does it say Classic? I don’t know )
5. Make sure you have read/write access to each file within the folder. *** THE FILE I HAD “NO ACCESS” TO was called “PxMPG2PartialLib_carbon”

If you don’t know how to change the permissions, see Apple’s website.

As soon as the permission was flat, I was able to run the application. I am not impressed though.
