If you have a mini dv (cassette) camcorder….
Your dv camcorder needs a firewire tie (ieee 1394) in order to download video, your PC doubtless did not come with a firewire port, so you will have to buy one and bed in it, since most computers (except possibly groundbreaking new) don’t come with a firewire port, your camcorder did not come with a firewire cord so you have to buy a cord too. Your camcorder did come with a USB cord and that is used for downloading stills from your camcorder.

If you have an analog (VHS) camcorder…
You need an analog converter, either internal card or external such as the dazzle. It’s very simple to use and come with excellent software. You would hook your analog VHS camera to the analog converter, the dazzle and then hook the dazzle to your PC. The dazzle cost around 70.00 , but worth the money if you have a lot of VHS to tapes to convert.

your question is somewhat ambiguous. Hi8 is not digital in any sense of the word. If they are Digital8 then your camcorder has either a USB or firewire for direct tie to the computer. If they are in fact Hi8, then you have two options. one is to buy an upscale Digital8 camcorder that has the capability to playback Hi8 tapes (be careful not all Digital8 cameras can do this). Or you can send AV from the camcorder to an AV capture card on your computer. They are not particularly expensive and usually come with a compliment of software for editing.

Most laptops have an S-video connector, that will feed your TV set. You may have to toggle the S-video on by by one of the F keys (its F7 on a Thinkpad), see the instructions for your laptop.

You may want to check the Sony support site for your camcorder model. You do need a firewire or iLink cable and a PC with a firewire port. The link to Sony is below….. As far as your PC goes, again I would consult your PC manufacturers support site for the information on how to connect to the TV.

I look at ebay uk and seen similar prices to what follows, I reckon you can certainly find a better deal. I seen prices on eBay for the Sony Hi8 in the ranges from 10242 Rupees ($ 170US) to around 15062 Rupees($ 250US). I’m now shopping around for a Sony camcorder for myself, but I’m looking to get the latest DCR SR40 or DCR SR80 being unrestricted the 1st of October 2006 in the US. The DCR SR40 is listed on amazon for 36150 Rupees($ 600US) which has 30 GB hard-drive and 20x optical zoom. The DCR SR80 is listed on amazon for 48200 Rupees ($ 800US) which has 60 GB hard-rive and 10x or 12x optical zoom. If your looking at something more affordable, the mini dv or DVD camcorder are also a excellent option. The only draw back with the DVD camcorders is that the file format used to record, is not excellent for someone who is into video editing. The mid line of the Sony DVD camcorders is the DCR DVD405 which you can buy from zoommania.com for 30848 Rupees ($ 512US) and the top of the line of the mini dv which is the DCR HC96 can be bought for about same price. Take your time and look around, some fantastic reviews are available at CNET and camcorderinfo.com.
Hope this helps and Excellent Luck.

Cisco kills the flip camera, consumers question why
There I was at the San Francisco Giants game the other evening, when my buddy chose to do something a bit silly — but memorable — and handed me his small Flip camera. I’m not going to share the YouTube link, but the video is pretty excellent, considering the lighting was weird and it was a very chaotic environment. There’s no way that I would have done nearly as well with my iPhone.
