The Nikon Coolpix P80 I believe will satisfy your needs and met all of your desires and needs. It has an 18x optical zoom with Image Stabilization!! It takes macro photos and is rated well by Consumer Reports. If you have any more questions feel free to email me.

People so often question: “Which one is a excellent camera to buy?”
Here is my 10 cents on the subject:

Point & Shoot cameras are wonderfully handy because of their small size.
When set alight situation are ideal, they even take really nice photos – all of them do.

Though, they all DO have limitations – they don’t do very well in low set alight situations (i.e. noisy photos, hard to avoid blur, etc). The small onboard sparkle is very harsh at close range, and doesn’t reach very far.
Many of them have no manual functions, so you are limited to only very basic photos, you can’t compensate for unusual situations, or do many fun “tricks” and special effects.
P&S’s also suffer from frustrating shutterlag and many of them chew through batteries rather quickly.

Though, if you’re ok with all those limitations, then go ahead and pick one, most of them (the same type and same price range) are rather similar. Personally I would pick either a Canon or a Nikon, and would certainly stay away from Kodak.

A higher end P&S will give you more manual options and better quality. Many of those even give you the option of adding a proper sparkle (which makes a huge difference to your sparkle photos).

Don’t worry too much about megapixels…. there is a limit to how many pixels you can squash into a tiny P&S sensor before you really LOSE quality rather than gain it.
Don’t worry about digital zoom, in fact, don’t EVER use it. It simply crops away pixels, i.e. destroys information. The only real zoom is optical.

Choose which features are vital to you, and look for cameras that have that feature.
Then go equate a few models on www.dpreview.com .

The very best thing you can do for your success is to borrow some books and learn about photography. A bit of knowledge will make a much larger difference to your photos than your choice of P&S camera can.

For what it’s worth – if I was in the promote for a P&S camera right now, my choice would be a Canon Powershot SX10 IS http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&fcategoryid=144&modelid=17630

P.S. forget about your rule #5 – no camera can handle being shaken without blurring the photo.

New Canon 5D Mark II, ,700, 21.1 Megapixels, Full Frame Sensor, Anti Dust Technology, Shoots HD Video
canon digital video camera price

Well what a pleasant bolt from the blue this morning. Pre-photokina Canon has unrestricted the details on the much anticipated bring up to date to it’s standard 5D camera (yes, the very same 5D that I like and shoot with each single day).

The new camera will sell for an estimated price of ,700. It will have a full frame 21.1-megapixel sensor, DIGIC 4 imaging processor and an expanded ISO sensitivity range from ISO 50 to ISO 25,600. It will shoot at 3.9 frames per second (a disappointment to some who were hoping for a quicker camera). Canon says that the new camera will be available at the end of November (just in time for Christmas grandma!).

It will also shoot 16:9 full 1080 HD video. The maximum length for videos on the new camera will be 4 GB per clip or 30 minutes, whichever comes first. The new camera will also have an input terminal for external microphones in addition to it’s built in signal.

Other features of the new camera include live view shooting and the ability to keep the shutter open in live view mode for quieter shooting (which Canon oddly says will be helpful to "law enforcement" in it’s press release). I can’t wait to see the follow up advertising campaign on this one, "Real cops shoot with Canon!"

It also includes a much needed dust cleaning system — dust on the full frame sensor was the largest conundrum with the original 5D in my opinion.

Like it’s predecessor 5D model the new 5D will not have built in sparkle.

Apparently there is also a new grip (which looks massive) that will be available as an add on belt for the 5D which will allow you to transmit images wirelessly to your computer or an FTP ma?tre d'h?tel. It’s said to include GPS which I would take upon yourself would mean that with this belt you will liable be able to auto geotag your photos.

So will Thomas Hawk be export one of these terrible boys as soon as he can possibly get his hands on one in November? Hell yes! No doubt.

Even if you can’t or don’t want to spend ,700 on a camera body though this is fantastic news because the original 5D is sure to drop in price substantially and that is still one of the finest digital SLRs out to shoot with. If you want to pick up an ancient 5D cheap I’d be scouring eBay for a used one come November.

Along with the 5D Canon also announced an updated version of their standard 24mm f/1.4 lens. The new EF 24mm f/1.4L II USM lens. I have the current 24mm L lens and like it. I’d imagine the new one will be even better.

You can read the entire Canon press release on the new 5D here.

I'm looking for a decent quality camera that can record video and be used for mostly filming skateboarding. The Canon Power Shot SD1200IS 10 MP Digital Camera seems to be the best and in my price range. Do u reckon the next step up Power Shot SD780IS12.1 is worth the extra $ $ ??

Here the the links to the cameras

The only major difference I see between the two cameras is that the SD780 can record videos in HD, while the SD1200 can’t. If that’s a feature you would find helpful, it will be worth the money.
