Can anyone recommend a good telescope to purchase and use along with my Nikon D40x digital slr camera?

I recently used my Nikon D40x digital slr camera to take some photos of the full moon with a 200mm telephoto. After that experience, I am attracted in purchasing a telescope that I can use along with my Nikon D40x to take even better photos of the moon and other night sky bodies. Can anyone recommend a excellent telescope that would be excellent for this function. I would prefer to spend well under $ 1000 for any telescope and gear. Thanks.

Meade (meade.com). They have everything you’ll need.

You have a wide variety of telescopes to choose from for under $ 1,000, though, you have a wider variety if you buy a used telescope.

You want a reputable brand such as Meade, Orion, Celestron, Takahashi, TeleVue, TEC and the likes. The telescope must have a stable mount and have tracking abilities. Goto isn’t needed though.

An equatorial mount is preferred for astrophotography but many Schmidt Cassegrains come standard on fork mounts. This is fine if you buy a wedge and a field de-rotator.

Most people are very well suited with 8″ Schmidt Cassegrains. You can buy these used for under $ 1000, often with accessories, on seats like http://www.astromart.com and http://www.cloudynights.com
You can try eBay as well.

What is the difference between the Nikon d40 and the Nikon d40x? What is the best Nixon srl camera out there? Everywhere can i find one really cheap

Answer by 5thRoot
There is very small difference at all. The main difference is that the D40x is 10mp and the D40 is only 6.

Here is a excellent comparison

As stated above, 6mp vs 10mp, and that’s about it.

To refer to Ken Rockwell:
“The D40x was announced March 5, 2007. It’s the same as the D40 with a few more pixels (the sensor comes from the D80), a slightly quicker frame rate, a much slower maximum sparkle shutter speed (sync) and a whopping 33% price increase.”

The difference in price will get you another lens and 6mp can give you brilliant images.
Here’s some photos from a D40:

And some from a D40x:

Just choose subjects that interest you in the “now showing” subject box to equate results from both cameras.

the x gives you a extra lens… it really depends on how much you wan’t to spend on the camera? the new nikon d300 is awesome and it runs about $ 1700 to$ 1900 keep in mind that if you go with either the d40 or d40x the autofocus will not work on nikons higher end VR lenses so that sucks!! if you got a price range and want to spend under a thousan i would look into the canon xti or new xsi(450d) the canon has a better sensor and with the digic III processor the camera will run quicker .. also no matter what lens you choose to buy with canon the autofocus will work in my opinion the canon is a better camera by far but don’t take my word for it look on dpreview.com and you will see that the xti is still favored over the d40 or d40x.
no matter what you choose on have fun and delight in
