we got a Nikon for a couple of hundred dollars, they all seem pretty much the same these days all charitable high quality pics etc, I just wanted one that I didn’t need a degree to run!

Answer by laurahal42
They’re all excellent.

Some are favoured for specific applications, like Canon DSLRs for astrophotography.

Have been researching for quite a while for an upgrade to the 6M Panasonic I have had for past 2 being. Have found for inverstment and for quality with future potential the Canon SLR Rebel XT not XTi and the Nikon D40 or D80 not D40i are the best investment for quality and ability. Daughter-in-law got the Canon for Christmas and it is excellent so long as you use sparkle. Was disappointed in automatic mode quality without sparkle. The Casio Elixim’s are also excellent units just the show is very simple to break.

That Pentax H1 on the left was my very first SLR—a camera I started by when I was 13 (handed down to me after dad got his Nikkormat).

On the right is my shiny new DSLR. I didn’t have any particular brand loyalty (as all my Olympus OM and Canon FD lenses are digital orphans). But for compactness and low-set alight abilities, the K-x seemed to be the best deal going at the moment. It’s an entertaining coincidence to come full circle back to Pentax.

The K-x is the cheapest Pentax DSLR; but even so it couples and sets the gap correctly with any K-mount "A" lens, dating back to 1983. And they all benefit from the in-body anti-shake.

I got an adapter to fit M42 screwmount lenses on the K-x too. But I haven’t located the section in the 300-page manual (!) explaining how to do stopdown metering yet. I’m really curious to see how well that ancient Auto-Takumar works out. It was the bolt from the blue winner in an informal 50mm "bokeh bake-off" test I did a while ago.

my kodak digital camera and printer have been acting up. the printer pretty much is junk and is only a year ancient. the camera is a small over two being ancient. i reckon its time to get a new one and am curious as to what would be a excellent choice. i want something simple to use and takes excellent pictures. the one i have now is a 5 mega pixel and would like at least an 8 mega pixel.

an 8mp camera is gonna range from 150 on up but they are worth it i have a cannon and i like it it has fantastic clarity!!!

Answer by T.B
Canon or Sony, but I would go with Canon.
Sony has fantastic style, but Canon has a small bit better picture quality.

Look for memory size and optical zoom range versus price. You’ll doubtless want to add memory anyway. Go to the store and mess with them. See if you like the way the function, house of buttons, ease of by the menu, and so on. It really is a judgment call.
For either small consumer cameras or professional SLR I tend to favor Canon. But there are certainly plenty of others. Check out the Canon Power Shot.
Watch out, most digital cameras don’t take pictures at an aspect ratio that matches standard print sizes. But some cameras, like the Canon, have a setting for that. Otherwise if you go to the store to have prints made you’ll get edges cut off.
