Will my older software work on windows vista too?
I have windows xp now but I might be getting a new computer tomorrow with windows vista. I have a kodak digital camera and on the disc I use to download the software, it says it’s good for windows and mcintosh. Does this mean it’s good for all versions of windows? It doesn’t specify what version of windows on the disc. I bought the camera in early 2007 and I know vista is fairly new. I’ve also got a disc for my internet drivers to download drivers for my modem and internet and that disc doesn’t specify what version of windows the software can be used for so will it work on windows vista too?

Both those products don’t need drivers. Your modem and router can work on ANY computer, and you can download pictures by putting the SD card into a card reader. Most new computers have them. That said, the software will probably run on Vista, as most software created for 950 an UP does work. Do note that if you get Vista 64-bit, you’ll lose support for 16-bit Windows 3.x applications, and you’ll need to run all DOS prograns in DosBox. Probably a non-issue, though.

many programs have worked with vista since it went retail. and those that didn’t now have updated versions that do. so you may have to d/l updated software but overall it is a far more stable os atleast when a clean install of a retail version is done anyhow. a regular retail version of any os always runs better than the bloated preinstalled versions

Chances are NO, you need to look on the disc’s to see if they are Vista compatible, and in other cases the manufacture do provide updates so they will work, other times they do not and you are forced to buy the compatible software.

Most cameras (and all of the network hardware I know of is compatible with Vista without any additional drivers).
If you are concerned, you should check with the manufacturers (usually downloads are available in the support section of their websites) to see if they have drivers or if the drivers are included with Vista.
BTW: The new version of Windows, “Windows 7″ is in beta testing now and will be released in just a few months, so I wouldn’t say that Vista is still new. The good news is that so far it looks like all of my Vista device drivers work fine in Windows 7, so if your hardware is okay in Vista, it should continue to be supported for a while.

I was just given an old dell laptop with windows 2000. I want to transfer pictures from my digital camera to my laptop. I know how to connect the usb cord from the laptop to the camera, but nothing happens when I do this. On a different computer, a screen would pop up with instructions. I can’t get my laptop to show that the camera is connected to it. The camera is a kodak that came with the easy share disk. I have tried installing this program on the laptop, but it doesn’t work since the disk is for win xp and my computer has win. 2000. I am fairly good with computers, but I can’t figure out what to do to add pictures to this laptop straight from my camera. The usb cord works because it works on other computers. My laptop’s usb port works because it will open flash drives. This leads me to believe that there is something that my laptop is missing. A driver or something?
Please help if you can. Thanks!

You probably are out of luck. Win2000 was oriented to business and enterprise customers, so it lacks a lot of consumer-type features you have come to expect with XP. It’s also old and will age even faster as developers drop support, which has been happening already anyway. A lot of consumer software and hardware never supported Win2000 anyway.
I don’t know if it’s possible to install the capabilities you need. Rather than waste time with Win2000, perhaps you could consider downloading and installing Ubuntu Linux? It works well on older hardware and should see your camera just fine. I suggest that because I know it will work and because a free OS is a good update for an old computer that wouldn’t be worth spending a lot of money.
