What is the best digital camera to buy for a photographer?

I am looking to get into photography as a way of making some extra money. I’m looking for advice on which digital camera to buy to start out with. I want a really excellent professional one but my budget is under $ 300. Anyone know of any?

There are no professional cameras anywhere near your budget. Pro models cost 10-15 times your budget just for the body. Add a few more thousand for a lens or two.

Before you even consider doing any paid work you need to know how to use a DSLR. I don’t mean just putting it on auto and pressing the button. It doesn’t work like that. Professional work requires a complete understanding of how the camera works and what equipment you need for the job. For any job you need to know what lenses, flashes, other lighting equipment etc that will be vital.

For your budget you wont find much other than either a point and shoot or a used DSLR or 35mm film SLR. A point and shoot would be completely unacceptable for professional work. You need an SLR.

hahahahaha…under $ 300…..hahahahahahahahaha

it isn’t so much the camera as the handgun,
composition and setting and lighting are vital aspects.
you can get a decent dslr with 2 kit lenses for about 700 dollars possibly less (my olympus e-500 cost that new a few being ago)
the lenses are what’s gonna eat your lunch, the camera body can be bought for well under a thousand to numerous thousand (depending on what bells and whistles you want…)

ok, to a point the people that responded before me were right. its going to be very hard to find a camera for that price. you need about $ 200 more to find a decent used one. and really, its all about house. i dont know everywhere your located. so everywhere i live i can scour craigslist.org for all my photography needs for CHEAP. and i can post to get photography business. so my resource is craigslist.org.
excellent luck…ill link you to a couple of cameras in my area and show you what to buy but most liable you wont be in my area. excellent luck!!!!

It depends on what features you are looking for.

It depends on everywhere you live.

it depends on a lot
if you just want an simple to use carry around with moderate power…sony cybershot 7.2
any 7.2 is excellent but make sure u get lithium battery because that AA battery stuff is horrid.
the casio exilim if you want to wow and it has everything the cybershot got just looks better. up your megapixels to 8 or 10 if you want right high quality for the 8 try the coolpix because that screen is incredible and for the 10 try the hp because the screen is emmence and taking pictures would be EZ

If you have to question this question (not being snotty) buy something simple and not too expensive.

If you only have the money to buy one and you’re mostly attracted in recording family or seats you go, then buy something smallish that you can stick in your purse or a pocket (preferably in a case).

I’d recommend one of the Canon SD-800 series, i.e. there are numerous SD 8?? which have image stablization (vital), face recollection and excellent pixel count. Shoots fine pictures, by either the LCD screen or an optical finder. You doubtless want at least the 7.1 megapixel one. These cameras are about the size of a pack of cigarettes.

There are other excellent equivalents by Fuji, Nikon, Panasonic, Olympus etc. You want one preferably that takes an SD card (higher end cameras will also use these or the CF card). Avoid the Xvid Cards. They’re okay, but tend to be expensive since fewer cameras use them.

These cameras have relatively limited zoom ranges, usually 3-4 x optical. Digital zoom is unimportant and is not a factor – no matter what the sales people tell you.

You might be inclined to look at a larger camera with a larger zoom range. Canons, Panasonics and others have huge zoom ranges of 12-16x. But the cameras are larger and you want to be sure you take the camera with you and don’t leave it behind because it’s too huge, etc.

All of these cameras are competent of makng large enlargements, depending on the photographer not shaking, etc.

Some people prefer a camera that takes AA batteries. Others don’t. Higher end cameras pretty much have to use Lithium-Ion batteries and they’re not cheap.

Sources. Costco. Amazon, BHphoto or Adorama are all companies that do well in my book.
