How do I upload videos from Sony Handycam HD to Mac?

The title says it all. How do I upload videos from Sony HD Handycam to Mac?
It seems when I connect it to the computer it only gives me the pictures not the videos. Am I gone something here?

Answer by Sarah
What’s your video file format? and Which player you play the videos?

Sony Handycam records High Definition video in MPEG4 AVC/H.264, HDV(MPEG2), Standard Definition video in MPEG2, and common video in DV(AVI).

Perhaps your player can’t play your HD videos.

We need more info, is your handycam mindv? minidvd? sparkle drive? hard drive?
How are you trying to download, usb? firewire?

HOW TO DOWNLOAD
Things you should know about how to download all types of camcorders.
Mini dv camcorders require a firewire tie, most computers do not come with one.
Minidvd have the worst quality, in order to get the video onto your computer, the minidvd must be finalized in the camcorder and then place in a top loading dvd burner and then converted. http://www.handbrake.fr/ free download
If you have a sparkle drive camcorder, you can download with a usb cord and full software or you can use an external usb card reader.
If you have a hard drive camcorder you can download with the full usb cord.

Usually, you need to use fireware or usb to connect the camera to your mac.If you have already registered the camera as an external disc of your desktop, you can do it by creating a new folder and drag the files into your mac from your camera. Then disconnect your camera and open imovie and click on File>Import>Moives.
If the video format is not mac suitable format, just convert it to mov or m p4.
