How to connect the Canon GL2 to Windows 7 64bit?

How to connect the Canon GL2 to Windows 7 64bit?

I know it requires firewire. However, I have a firewire port already on my computer and the cable. The issue is that the camera does not display itself as a driver on my computer. I have heard a bit about the “legacy drivers” but i don’t know much. I used to run xp, everything worked fine on there. Why won’t it work on Windows 7? Any ideas?

You don’t need drivers, you do need video editing software, even if it is just Windows Movie Maker.

W7 64 does not install with WMM, you have to download it (free) from Microsoft.

Does no harm to install the Canon software, but it should not be required.

Plug in firewire cord, then turn camera on to “Play” (slider back toward battery end of camera).

Slaving away at work… If you can call it work.

Without a rain protector? Maybe I can make like a makeshift rain protector thing or hang an umbrella over it. What do you think?
Dangerous as in dangerous to the camera, not myself or others. Don’t get cute.

Not dangerous in the least. However, you want to keep it dry if you want to keep it working properly. Can’t help being cute. Just a burden I have to bear.

water and electronics don’t mix. add to that tape which doesn’t work in high humidity let alone wet, you have a problem. first and foremost, the camera can only be allowed to operate when completely dry. I have gotten professional gear splashed with water, and when allowed to dry out, continued working. from the question i get the idea that you want to shoot while it is raining. you must keep the camera dry, an umbrella might work but only if it is not windy, however its hard to hold 2 things. i have used custom made rain protectors that wrap around the camera, which solves the problem of holding 2 things. but that does not keep rain drops off the front of the lens. be sure and use a clear filter to protect the front of the lens,. that is what the filter threads are for. and be prepared to wipe clear occasionally.

and finally, ask yourself, how important is the shot if it might ruin the camera, only you can answer. There are other dangers when working wet. For example it is easy to lose footing on slick ground and drop the camera. a car driving by may hit a puddle and splash you. not to mention the possibility of lightning.

i have taken my rain footage from sitting inside a car and opening a window, or from inside a building looking out an open door. much safer that way.

Go with lare,

I used to use a plactic bag, let the opening stay at the bottom, cut a small hole in the bag for the lens, use tape to seal the hole around the lens, put you hand up from the bottom you can reach the buttons and hold that camera. It works well for “normal light rain” but anything more than that you need a propper cover,
