Usually the best prices are ebay or amazon.com

Excellent choice! Sony products are highly recommended tech stuff but I wouldn’t recommend online export like Ebays or Amazon.com etc. coz you wouldn’t know if you’ve bought a groundbreaking new or a refurbished one. Smart people buy Tech stuff at the stores in person. Best Buy, Future Shop, Staples, Canadian Tire & Sources are reliable Tech stores in Canada. You’d atleast get some warranty for replacement or return and even mail in rebate there sometimes if the company has one. But the price is like more the Optical Zoom higher the price. In Sony the best so far is Sony DCR-DVD108 DVD Handycam Camcorder with 40X Optical zoom, its the latest one and It comes with 3 basic stuff like Software to help you use your camcorder on a computer for downloading your video, USB cable for connecting the cam with your computer and an Adapter cord for recharging the Lithium battery. Check with Best Buy & Staples Depot. It was on sale at about $ 449.99 (Tax not included) which is within $ 500 but some stores are promotion the same product at over $ 549.99 -$ 600.

The Sony PMW-EX1 XDCAM EX camcorder records onto Sony SxS PRO memory cards. The camera features a 14x zoom lens, full HD resolution (1920 x 1080) 3-1/2-inch CMOS HD sensor, MPEG-2 Long GOP 35 Mb/s VBR HQ recording mode, and the ability to record 30P and 24P. The camera also has a slow shutter mode and can do time-lapse. Read my first impressions of the camera here: kino-eye.com/2008/07/04/sony-pmw-ex1/

I want to set my camcorder up so that I can use it as a surveillance camera. I want whatever is being recorder to be saved directly to my PC, so that I don’t use all my internal memory and the video does not stop recording once all the space is used.

I can have my camcorder on without it turning off automatically as long as it is plugged in, but the only conundrum is that it runs out of space after about 2 hours of filming and the camcorder will still be on but nothing is being recorded. Does anyone know a way that I can have my video being saved to my PC hard drive instead of by the internal memory of the camcorder? Any help would be really appreciated.
The Camcorder is a Sony Fusion plus Handycam

Model No: DCR-DVD810 and its doubtless about two being ancient, I can hook it up to my PC with a USB but am not sure how to have the recordings be saved to my pc.

It depends on the model and age of it. You should be able to hook it up to your pc, but would need a USB or RCA tie on your PC to do so. From there you would also need some software to enable your computer to record the video to your computer hard drive. Try this website

It should have a “camera” mode that will make it
output the image without recording.
Connect it to any device that will accept its signal.
