Is anyone tech savvy when it comes to digital camera screens?

Is anyone tech savvy when it comes to digital camera screens?

I have a Nikon Coolpix S220 camera and the screen show is completely obscured; it’s just vertical blurry shape. You can’t see what you’re doing. Though, the camera still takes pictures just fine. There is no visible screen hurt (no cracks or anything). We don’t know what’s incorrect with it. Our local camera repair shop said the base repair fee starts at $ 130 and that they sell an exact replacement for our camera for $ 110. Is it really that expensive to repair an LCD screen and should we get a new camera, or is there a less expensive way? I despise to just trash this camera if I don’t have to. In each other way, it’s just fine. It’s just the screen show that is malfunctioning. Any advice would be fantastic!

Sounds to me like the screen connector may have come lose. That’s a relatively simple repair. Could also be something more complicated of course.

Even without any replacement parts a qualified tech needs to get his hands on the camera, open it and diagnose the conundrum. That takes time and that kind of time is expensive.

Unfortunately you are at their mercy if the camera is not under warranty. When it comes to electronics, it naturally costs more to repair it than it does to replace it.

You could try to file a claim on your renter/home owners insurance…more than liable though, they will equate repair cost to new price and you still wind up with a new camera (and a claim on your insurance).

If it makes you feel any better, I was quoted $ 180 for a cleaning/inspection/timing adjustment on one of my DSLRs.

First, I had the Canon powershot pro 1, loved it for my close-up jewelry but I closed my biz and wanted a less vital compact camera, so I got the sony dsc-t700, that is the WORST camera ever, so many problems. And the sony repair house is a bunch of idiots and will never replace it even though it was defective. I reckon I will go with the Nikon s70, had the one b4 it and it was fantastic.

They come in 4 different colors.
Blue, conservational, pink, and silver.

& they are just 99 dollars.

They also have focus and can take gorgeous pictures.

I’ve used the Canon PowerShot SD1000 and I like it a lot for a point-and-shoot. I’ve just read about the Sigma DP2 and it looks rather nice. I’d like to try it out, but can’t give a first-hand recommendation right now. It’s about six hundred, fifty dollars too. As opposed to the Canon which is two hundred.

Wait for the Nikon S70. You’ve had a fantastic experience with Nikon, stick with it. You might write Sony and tell them how surprised you are that you got such terrible service at a Sony service shop.

Mostly me ranting but brief explanation as well on how to fix a “lens error” on a Nikon Coolpix L3 camera. If you want more details everywhere you can more easily skim the ranting, go here: www.digitalcamera-hq.com Of course, if you have one of those ridiculously expensive warranties that covers everything, by all means, bring it in.
