I tried doing it the usual way like when a small box pops up and I choose one of the actions, but it only works for pictures. My ancient Sony Cybershot was fine the way I used to do it. Is there any alternatives?

Use a USB card reader and copy/paste the video from the card to your videos file.

does your cam have dv out place, if so buy a dv cable and hook it up to your tv card (first check weather your tv card have a d/v input) then download a software for your tv card and recode it.

if you have a video card + ( XP media center or vista )
just hook up your tv cable and play tv on your media center or recode it. <<<<----- i suggest this
