Which lenses are the best to get when buying a Nikon D90?

I’m looking for something that’s great quality, yet not too expensive…any suggestions?

Really the best lens is not inexpensive. I would suggest you step up and buy the 18-200 mm VR over the “kit” 18-105 mm.

With the cost of a D90 dropping with the introduction of the new D7000, you may find that the 18-200 mm falls into your budget

If you are just starting out in photography and want a general purpose lens, the kit lens normally provided as part of the package will be a good choice. The kit lens 18 – 105 mm has a reasonably wide zoom range and also has VR (vibration resistance).

As fhtoace suggested, the 18-200mm lens. I rarely take this lens off of my D90 in place of another.

The kit lens is enough for most shooting conditions you will encounter. There is no best all-around lens. There are lenses that are better fit for certain conditions only. Focal length will more-or less dictate the use of the lens.

Nikon’s 17-55 or 24-70 are great quality lenses and not too expensive for what you get.

i’m currently heavily thinking about getting a new camera, my d70′s flash is dead since summer and repair is too expensive (100-150 euros) for such an old camera, anyways I could use a more responsive camera and more resolution from time to time. Sadly I’m also rather short on money (haha, what euphemism). so at the moment a used nikon d200 for about 450-500 euros looks like the best deal available, the nikon d90 is quite a bit more expensive (750 euros and up) and the d300 is used still about 1000 euro (although that would be my first choice, after the definitely too expensive d700 of course).

so. what do you think? is the high iso performance really worth 300 euro for the d90? or should I save the money for lenses?

This question has been asked millions of times before. Nikon vs. Canon is a common decision. The usual answer is to go to the camera store and thoroughly check both of them out. Get a feel for them and go with the one that feels best to you. Quality-wise, they’re virtually the same.

Maybe I’m crazy, but I can almost SWEAR that the IMAGE quality on the D90 is way superior. But maybe not. HOWEVER; if you’re into video and stuff, then go for the 550d because you get more options and it’s the newer camera. I think if image quality is your main concern, I would go with the D90 but you HAVE to try them for yourself.

If you think about it, if it can be proven that one of camera is ‘the best slr’ then it should out-sell the other by a huge margin. This is not the case – so the bad news is that we really don’t know which is the best. The good news is that you can’t be wrong if you pick either one

As mentioned by some, Nikon strengths are in the image quality (just slightly), great lenses (only if you buy nikkor). Canon has high MP (good when cropping), good video, wide choice of lens.

I think that the d90 is “better” than the 550d.
however, i think you should get a cheaper, basic dslr and spend the extra money on better lenses.
it’s not about the camera. it’s about the lens. i learned it the hard way. i just got a 500d and i realized i should have gotten a 450d or 1000d and spent the money on some nice, high quality lenses.
