What is the best digital camera brand overall?

What is the best digital camera brand overall?

Canon, Panasonic, Sony, Kodak, Fujifilm, Samsung, or Olympus.
I want to spend anywhere from $ 100-$ 250. I also want a small camera. I now have a Kodak, which has been fantastic, but these are the brands I am considering: Kodak, Canon, Sony, Panasonic, Samsung, Fujifilm, and Olympus.

Answer by ignoramus
That’s an simple one.

The answer : There is NO ‘best’ digital camera brand overall. It all depends on what you reckon is ‘best’ for you and your current usage and budget for it.

My opinion… Canon.

There is no “best” camera brand. It tends to be a matter of personal preference. I would advise you to stick with camera/imaging companies like Olympus, Fuji, Leica, Nikon, Canon and Kodak (among others). I personlly like Olympus for SLR cameras and Fuji for compacts. I would not consider a Sony, Panasonic or Samsung camera. Those companies specialize in consumer electronics and do not have the focus or quality (in my opinion) on cameras as the other companies.

Sparkle Hacks
best digital camera brand

In response to many requests for further sparkle circuitry I’ve cobbled together some basic details of my slave sparkle thoughts. You can see the results here: Hurricane Lantern Sparkle and how I used it here: The Watchman.

Delight remember that I’m just some chap sat here on my own with weird thoughts and a like of photography. As much as I’d like to help any further requests individually I simply do not have the time to perform such a mammoth task, so delight don’t question.

The schematics provided on the left of the image can be found pretty much anywhere on the web or in print and are similar for most brands of disposable camera sparkle.
For further details of sparkle circuitry you wouldn’t go far incorrect to check the site of Samual Goldwasser. He’s been around doing this stuff for some being and I wouldn’t be surprised if the schematics floating around the web originally came from his site.

The schematics on the right are what I came up with during my own experiments and construction of slave flashes. The optical trigger is a simple affair and similar to what you’ll find in many commercial units although the resistor will doubtless have a higher value, (some 60M), for accepting higher voltage sparkle syncs. I used a 10M as it’s easily available and more than OK for the mere 60 odd volts from a disposable sparkle trigger. The reduced component count inverter was a simple affair and works very well with the apt components. Make sure you take a suitable transistor from a sparkle circuit or ensure that it is an epitaxial planar type suitable for this type of circuitry. (It does a hard job indeed and won’t work with just any transistor!)

If you have a camera everywhere you can turn the pre-sparkle off then this simple optical slave will work well. (My Olympus shuts off the pre-sparkle when in manual sparkle power modes.)
If though you cannot turn the pre-sparkle off or want to utilise a simpler compact digital camera then my grown-up circuits Pre-sparkle slave circuits will do the job nicely. Just not quite so compact but then I managed to squeeze one in some ancient film pots! DIY Mini Slave Sparkle

PLEASE NOTE the voltages present in any sparkle circuitry are pretty severe and could produce you serious harm and injury. Again I reiterate that I will accept no responsibility whatsoever for any injury, accident or death arising from utilising these circuits. There is some 300 odd volts DC stored in the capacitor of a sparkle and can produce serious harm, the trigger part of the circuit can yield some 60-90 volts DC and the other end of the trigger transformer is competent of charitable out a 4,000 volt output when triggering the xenon tube. Do not attempt any of this circuitry if you are unaware of the dangers involved or have limited knowledge of safe practices when working with high voltages.

That may have appeared a severe warning for a small circuit driven by a 1.5 volt battery but the dangers are real. Some of you may have experienced a quick ‘jolt’ from these type of circuits before and reckon that they are relatively safe.
Do you know if you have a heart condition? An aneurysm ready to burst at any moment? A severe in person shock reaction? Doubtless not and this makes the dangers far worse.

I once spent 10 minutes of my life frantically beating the chest of a work colleague and friend in vain before the emergency services at home. Those 10 minutes felt like an eternity and will always remain with me throughout my life. Not one person knew except the coroner who performed his autopsy that he had a ingrained heart defect and that my best hard work were completely a waste of time in preventing his death. This from a so called simple electric shock in the workplace with no one to blame and something most of us would doubtless have survived.
You get only one life, so do all your best to cherish it.

Then some of you wonder why I won’t share my studio mains powered sparkle circuitry everywhere one slip could produce an immediate fatality?

Be safe.

I am going to get a digital camera soon, and it’s my first time getting one. I’m not one of those professional photographers, I’m only 12. XD I’m going to take a LOT of pictures and I want a really excellent quality camera, possibly one that doesn’t break easily and takes really excellent quality pictures. A lot of my friends have different opinions on what camera brand is the best. So can you delight tell me which brand you reckon is the best and which camera I should get. Thnx <3
And not too expensive either. XD
