I got a Pro-96 Radio Shack Digital Scanner and I want to download frequencies to it. Whats an easy way to?

I downloaded one progra but its really confusing. Is there a simple way to upload the frequencies without having to take it into Radio Shack each time?

You have the USB cable for programming your scanner from your PC?

It doesn’t list the 96 as one of the compatible models…

or did yours come with it’s own cable…

Radio Shack says that this works with “compatible software” meaning as far as they are concerned, you are on your own in finding a program you like. You can keep looking for software…

But think about it this way, for this is how it is…
There are not all that many people out there using personal computers to program digital scanners. Really. There aren’t. So, there aren’t a lot of people or companies who are writing software for the task of programming digital scanners. The people who are making the software, are doing so for enthusiasts. The software is being created with the thought in mind that the person who is trying to customize and improve on the default digital scanner already really knows what he is doing. The software is also going to be created to adjust as many parameters as possible, because again, the target audience is the enthusiast who is looking to be able to alter as much as possible.

You don’t build a Soldering Iron Tree for the general use of the housewife, or for the every day person. You build the tool to best handle the job. You build it in mind of the guy who is going to use it every day. It doesn’t need a cup holder, or a cell phone charger. It needs to provide quick access to the iron, a wet slab, some clamps to assist in holding what you are soldering, and a magnifying glass to assist in tighter tasks. Complex little tree, but it is the best tool for the job. Not every tool maker makes Soldering Iron Trees. See where I’m going with this example?

You might have to learn how to use this program you already have, instead of trying to find an easier short cut. You may not find an easier program to use… it might not exist. Aren’t you better off if you learn more about the scanner and how it operates anyway? More knowledge is better than less.

You need the interface from Radio Shack to connect to a PC and then software.
