How do I take a long exposure on a Nikon D50?

How do I take a long exposure on a Nikon D50?

Can anyone explain step-by-step how to take a long exposure photograph on a Nikon D50.

Thanks in advancee!

First you have to be in lighting that is low enough to allow a long exposure and of course a tripod.

Next if you set your camera to manual mode, (Page 6, 40-41 and 46 in your owners manual) you can set the aperture to something like f/16 or f/22 and then while using the light meter, move the shutter speed to whatever long exposure setting is needed to expose the sensor properly. If you set the cameras ISO to it lowest value (ISO 200), the correct shutter speed will be at its lowest.

If the shutter speed is still to fast for your needs, you an add a ND4 (neutral density) filter to your lens

Define “long exposure” and what it is you are trying to do.

The 1st response is good in a general sort of way.

My colleague Joe Gonzzalez took this photo of me (with his Nikon D80 and Quantaray 18-200mm 3.5-6.3 lens) while we where in the middle of a photo session in Eduardo Peréz Studio (where I’m currently taking a photography course to get my Professional Photographer Diploma in about 4 months, for more info about this go to: www.eduardoperezstudio.com).

Here I am with my new acquisition, My Nikon D50 (bought it about a month ago), and my old (but new to me), Nikon Nikkor-S Auto 50mm 1.4. I like the high key quality of the photo.

I have been looking everywhere to find out whether the Nikon 55-200mm Vibration Reduction lens will work on the D50 camera. I know it will work on some of the other SLR cameras, but It doesn’t say anywhere whether it will on the D50. Can someone help me out?

There should be no problem. A few years ago, I toured China with my trusty D70 and the Nikon 18-200mm VR lens. My daughter used one of my other cameras, a D50, along with a 28-300mm Sigma optic.

At times, we simply swapped lenses and found the lenses and bodies to be perfectly compatible. You should have no problem with the 55-200mm VR.
