"how can I transfer the video on a mini DV cassette from my older JVC digital camcorder to my computer?

the camera has no usb port
the model is GR-DVF20. I dont know everywhere to plug in a firewire
camera has “s out” and “jlip” relations as well as the red-yellow-white.

MiniDV uses a firewire cable to connect the camcorder’s DV port to the computer’s firewire port.

Nothing will “show up” anywhere.

USB won’t work, anyway. And for others who’s camcorders might have a USB port, USB-to-firewire cable/adapter/converter/hub things won’t work. The CD is for moving stills off the memory card only – if there is none with your camcorder, then the USB driver is for USB streaming – so even if you magically and accidentally get USB streaming to work (most don’t), you won’t be transferring high quality DV video but low quality compressed video that will look terrible.

Firewire cards are cheap – hopefully you have an available expansion slot in your computer so you can add one.

Once you get that done, the firewire/1394 port in your computer’s profile will show active and properly working. That’s all you get. Connect the camcorder’s DV port to the firewire port, and place the camcorder in Play mode. Launch the video editor. Import – or Capture the video. MovieMaker sometimes has problems – try WinDV to import, then edit in MovieMaker… Or get a real editor like Sony Vegas or Adobe Premiere.

It would be a lot more holpful if you provided the camcorder model digit information and manufacturer (and model digit) information about your computer.

Analogue vs Digital

The gap was f/1.8, but I combined two photos all ears on the different camcorders as a special effect, got the thought here on WVS’s photostream.

Jazz finished up in the background. Neither of them work, I’m on my third camcorder now. You can notice how different the focusing is by looking at the line of focus on the floor in front of the machines.

I reckon i place incorrect model digit, but it is digital, has a hard drive and is very small
