How do I rewrite video on a DVD-RW with my Sony HandyCam?

How do I rewrite video on a DVD-RW with my Sony HandyCam?

I have a Sony HandyCam and I particularly bought the DVD-RW disks for it because I wanted to use them over and over again. I just finished a disk and transferred the record I want to keep to my computer. My HandyCam won’t let me reuse (rewrite) over the disk. Does anyone know how to do this or how to delete the record on the disk so I can use it again? The instruction book that came with the HandyCam doesn’t say. Thanks, your help is appreciated!

I am borrowing a Sony Handycam model # DCR TRV70. I am trying to capture record onto my mainframe that runs Vista. I bought a USB cable that connects the two, and my computer recognizes it, but it keeps saying that I cannot install the drivers that are needed, and keeps calling it an unknown device. I do not have the CD that was built-in with the camera. I have been fighting with this conundrum for awhile…

Is this a hard drive camera? I reckon they use a USB cord, but if your camera is a minidv camera
If you have a mini dv (cassette) camcorder….
Your dv camcorder needs a firewire connection (ieee 1394) in order to download record, your PC probably did not come with a firewire port, so you will have to buy one and install it, since most computers (except maybe groundbreaking new) don’t come with a firewire port, your camcorder did not come with a firewire cord so you have to hold a cord too. Your camcorder did come with a USB cord and that is used for downloading stills from your camcorder.

If you have a mini dvd camcorder….
You will have to finalize your dvd in the camera and then place the dvd in your computer ‘s DVD burner (top loading only) and then you will have to convert the files (i downloaded handbrake file converter free) and import them into your control program. Use the HELP feature in your control program to learn about control. Once you are ready to burn, your project will be burned to a different DVD and you can file the first away.

The DCR-TRV70 is a MiniDV camcorder, so you need to capture the record via firewire, not USB. The USB connection is for transferring stills. If your PC hasn’t already got one you’ll need to install a firewire card. They’re cheap, simple to install and readily available. You’ll also need a firewire cable.

I also have Sony TRV70 and my mainframe does not recognize connection thru USB. But since my mainframe has PCMCIA slot, I bought a PCMCIA-Firewire adaptor like: http://sewelldirect.com/firewirepcmciacard.asp?source=froogle&utm_source=Froogle&utm_medium=cse. If you have another type of PCMCIA, Express Card, it’s a small price at http://www.firewire-1394.com/siig-firewire-expresscard.htmy. Excellent luck.
