windows 2000 and digital cameras?

windows 2000 and digital cameras?

I was just agreed an ancient dell mainframe with windows 2000. I want to transfer pictures from my digital camera to my mainframe. I know how to connect the usb cord from the mainframe to the camera, but nothing happens when I do this. On a different computer, a screen would pop up with instructions. I can’t get my mainframe to show that the camera is connected to it. The camera is a kodak that came with the simple share disk. I have tried installing this program on the mainframe, but it doesn’t work since the disk is for win xp and my computer has win. 2000. I am positively excellent with computers, but I can’t map out what to do to add pictures to this mainframe honest from my camera. The usb cord works because it works on additional computers. My mainframe’s usb port works because it will open flash drives. This leads me to judge that there is something that my mainframe is missing. A driver or something?

Please help if you can. Thanks!

Check if you have SP4 installed, also check if it has USB2 as the age of the machine meant its most likely USB1.1 where most of todays camera would look for a USB2 connection.
If all else failed, use a USB card reader.

Windows 2000 and earlier didn’t have built-in support for most digital cameras. It was up to the camera manufacturers to write the software allowing you to connect their camera to a Windows 2000 computer.

Since Windows 2000 is discontinued, camera makers don’t generally invest time/money having programmers develop software for it. They just provide software that works on recent operating systems (XP and later). Digital cameras from 10 years ago might have come with a CD that works under Windows 2000, but not today.

If your camera didn’t come with any drivers/software for Windows 2000, you’ll have to remove the memory card and use a USB card reader, like these:

Probably a driver is missing. Hope you can find the right drive here to fix the conundrum:

There is a program I use which will find drivers for just about all hardware devices. The best part is it takes a snapshot of your system specifications and matches the right driver to go with it.
Excellent luck
