Wanting to buy a good compact digital camera?

Wanting to buy a good compact digital camera?

I have been looking around on the web for a while deciding what camera to buy with my birthday money (which is tomorrow :) ). I’ve narrowed down to a couple, the Nikon s51 / s51c or the Canon ixus 75 (Powershot SD750). I’m just wondering which is the better camera.
I’m open to suggestions, except Olympus. I had a Stylus 710 and the lens completely jammed up.
One without a retractable lens would be best.
Thankyou :)

I would consider Canon SD850 IS instead of SD750. SD850 has image stabilization which is very useful in low light situation.

It’s a wonder I still gave this to my girlfriend :)

I mostly take pictures of my kids. So I am looking for a camera that the pictures can be blown up to at least an 8×10. I always like taking nature shots. I have the Canon Powershot sx100 IS right now, and I like it but its too bulky.

Canon makes the best digital cameras out of anyone. So any smaller Canon that is in your price range, would be fine.

When 3 megapixel cameras came out, they were finally good enough to produce 8 x 10 photos. So anything above 3 megapixels is fine. And every camera sold today is far above 3 megapixels, they are all around 12 or higher today!

The only reason you would ever really NEED 12 megapixels is if you are making life size large posters!

So don’t worry about the megapixels. If you are choosing between two cameras you like and one has 10 megapixels and the other has 14 megapixels, don’t assume the 14 megapixel camera is better. In fact, many times the higher megapixel camera can be worse, because they cram too many pixels within a small sensor size which can cause other problems in picture quality.

IGNORE megapixels, (because ALL cameras above 3 megapixels will be good enough for 8 x 10) and if you choose a Canon, all you need be concerned about is the size of the camera, and any other features or battery sizes it takes.

Canons have the best color accuracy and picture quality of any digital camera, so if you stick with that brand, again, all you have to worry about is the size and price that is best for you and you should be all set.
