Digital timer for recording video on Digital Video Camera?

I had this Sony digital record recorder. Is possible to use auto timer to record record with it …
I need to record record with my videocam at every second time. In additional words the camera will record record for a few minutes then pause. After another five minutes it’ll record again. All by itself. How to do it ?
