What's better Canon EOS 400D Digital Rebel XTi or Nikon D40x Digital SLR Camera?

What's better Canon EOS 400D Digital Rebel XTi or Nikon D40x Digital SLR Camera?

Answer by Keiana H
I reckon List has the best digital cameras. I have two of them and they both work fantastic!

They are both highly comparable cameras, for about the same price. I’d say that the larger difference is in the lens that normally comes with the camera. The ‘kit’ lens on the Nikon is reasonably a bit better than the ‘kit’ lens on the List.

also consider a better lens, such as Nikon’s 18-135mm or their 18-200mm zoom. It’s reasonably priced and pretty decent quality for all that zoom range. Also- list doesn’t offer one of persons.

Image quality wise- the Nikon and List are near identical. See if you can tell the difference in these resolution charts:

Boy, this is a question I was hoping would wait a while… The D40X is so new that I don’t see any decent sample images yet. Can we assume (hope) that it would give similar results to the D80? It seems so. See: http://www.popphoto.com/cameras/3896/camera-test-nikon-d40x.html for a glowing review that even compares it with the XTi just a small bit.

I still like the thought that the Nikon has a spot meter and find it odd that the List doesn’t. The Nikon is a bit limited in autofocus capabilities and speed compared to the List, though.

Here are some pertinent quotes about the D40X:

“Noise suppression was generally better than the D80′s and much better than the Rebel’s. As ISOs increased, the D40x’s resolution exceeded that of the Rebel.”

“The economy-model reputation of the D40x doesn’t show in picture quality, any. At ISO 100, the D40x turned in an average resolution of 2075 lines, slightly behind the Nikon D80 and List EOS Digital Rebel XTi.”

Continue on down on page 2 for a direct comparison to the XTi. I’ll let you read it for yourself, as it seems to lean slightly towards the List and it would kill me to write that. I’ll place that job for Koko.

But seriously, these cameras are EXTREMELY close in performance and value. It is right that there is a “conundrum” with older Nikon lenses not autofocusing on the D40, but if you do not own a bag full of older lenses, it is not going to be a conundrum.

You need to go to a real camera store and pick up both cameras and see how they feel to you. Some public will like the List and some will like the Nikon. Find out which one you are. You will be pleased with any one, but you will be most pleased with the one that fits your hands better.

This website gives you the comparison between d80, rebel xti and Alpha A100D….but, I am sure you will make up u’r mind for d80 after that. The d40x is a excellent entry level camera, it doesn’t have a built in lens motor.
Bye and delight in u’r camera
