Should I buy an HD camcorder or a digital camera with HD video?

Should I buy an HD camcorder or a digital camera with HD video?

My friends and I want to make short films and I was look for any suggestions on any good cameras that can shoot in HD. I noticed a lot of people I know have been filming with a Canon 7D, but way too expensive. I’m looking to spend anything around $ 200. Iwas thinking of getting a Kodak z950. I really want to get a digital camera because the last camcorder I had was too noisy and would be noticable in our movies. Any good suggestions? I need this asap.

If you want to take high quality videos (1080p), then you need a camcorder, not just a digital camera. I have used both, trust me, there is a difference. Unless quality isn’t an issue, go for the camcorder.

A noisy camcorder would be from either 1: the tape being written on. or 2: poorly put together lenses that are loud as they focus and zoom. I can’t say I’ve ever had a noisy camcorder problem though.

Here is what I use: Kodak Zi8
It only costs $ 179 on Amazon.

I actually used the Sony HDR-CX110 HD (cost me $ 600) camcorder for a while but then returned when the quality was barely better than my little Kodak Zi8.

The Kodak Zi8 films in 1080p at 30 fps or 720p at 60 fps (the second one is great for sports or filming while snowboarding).

For short films is a must have over the flip since it has an external mic input and the flip does not. This ALONE makes the Kodak Zi8 worth it. Also, it’s only $ 179 on Amazon. Search YouTube for videos made with the Kodak Zi8 if you want to see the quality for yourself.

I will be needing an HD camera for my vacation this summer.

It must be really SLIM & COMPACT to slide in my pocket without it being too bulky. I will be on the go and walking around during my little “eurotrip”.

I am just concerned about the overall HD video quality. What would you suggest?

So you want a “pocket toy”. There’s plenty out there but I’d always go with the Canon

I’d suggest the SD780 IS…because at least you would also be able to shoot still images. The Flip can’t do that.

Beware, HD movies have very large file sizes (approx. 10mins 53sec per 2GB) so make sure you have plenty of memory card capacity.

This video is a demo shot entirely with Canon’s 5D MarkII DSLR camera. It is a six minute three-section video demonstration of a photoshoot and digital image composition process. The video is mainly intended to demonstrate the capabilities of the camera and to share our joy of creation through behind-the-scenes pictures. You are able to follow our muse and model, Anna Zsiros, throughout the entire process which creatively and gradually assembles into a final image. Agi Horacsek deserves credit for greatly improving upon the original concept with her creative application of makeup. Her creativeness added a slick edge to the unquestionable beauty of our successful Hungarian female fashion model, Anna. With the introduction of HD video recording in the recent Canon cameras, even us photographers have the possiblity to experience new fields of expressing our creativity using the same bodies and lenses for both media. While using these new photocameras the models hardly know whether you are recording video or shooting stills. This allows the shooter to catch moments that normally never occur in front of an ordinary camera because the subject is not aware that he or she is being recorded as a video capture. We’ve enjoyed this ‘feature’ extensively. We would like to thank for all those who have contributed to the development and production of this product so far. We promise this is NOT where we stop, rather, the beginning of what is more testing and fun in the use of the Canon
