Comparison between 2 digital cameras?

this site has VERY detailed reviews of both the Sony Cyber-shot HX5V and the Panasonic ZS7

even the review says that these two are close contenders. I’m hoping someone here can sway me in one direction.

The main appeal to the Sony one is the landscape feature and its quick shooting mode.

The main appeal to the ZS7 would be its control over manual settings and higher zoom. And it seems to have better picture quality according to reviews.

So I’m trapped between wanting to learn photography in more detail by having a camera with more manual control and having a camera with more clean features. Of course, I’ve only started to learn so I don’t know if it’s worth it…

BTW, are there any new cameras coming out in the next month or so that will outshine these two?
