What brand is best for digital SLR cameras? Nikon or Canon?

What brand is best for digital SLR cameras? Nikon or Canon?

Or which brand do you prefer?

I’m looking into purchasing a DSLR camera but i’m stuck on which brand to get. I’ve owned both Nikon and Canon digital camera’s and i’ve noticed that Nikon has a poor picture quality. I’m unsure if that is also the case with Nikon’s DSLR camera’s. I’m also only an amature photographer that focuses on landscape, marco and portrait shooting. Any Suggestions on lens’s would be great too!

I like canon Compact cameras more then I do Nikon, but in the DSLR run, Canon and Nikon are basically the exact same in every way. Its like Coke v. Pepsi. You have people that like Canon, and you have people that like Nikon

Either way, you will have to buy the camera and an extra lens or two for the macro and the portraits

you will have to tell us a budget for all the equipment, because the cheapest you can make it is about $ 1000 for what you want to do.

If you are a beginner, you can look at the Nikon D3000, D5000, and D3100 and the Canon Rebel Xs, T1i, and T2i. All of these are under $ 1000 with one lens

if you are more intermediate, the Nikon D7000 is a great camera, followed by the D300s. and these two are $ 1500-$ 1800 with a single lens.

as for lenses, this is a good all-around lens that can do portraits somewhat and can do macro

Canon has their equivalent

then you have probably the best portrait lens:

along with another macro lens.

In general, all the major manufacturers build excellent entry level DSLR’s for the beginner. My choice would be for the following

Nikon D3100 -$ 650
Canon T1i -$ 699
Pentax Kx -$ 499
Nikon D3000 -$ 450
Canon XS -$ 450
Olympus E-420 -$ 400
Sony A330 -$ 400

All of these are good camera for the beginner. If video is important, only the first three listed have that. Remember picture quality is mostly in the hands of the photographer and not the camera. Practice your skills and you will be taking great pictures soon.

Hey,

Heh..You’ve owned both of them..I’m assuming compact cameras? Those are bad when compared to DSLRs. Look, they’re the same brand. It only depends on the model.

If you found Nikon has poor quality, there is something wrong with your eyes or the photos. Nothing, is wrong with the camera, but your skills for that photo.

I will soon begin doing some photography on the side and am interested in purchasing a good, quality camera. I’m new to the digital SLR cameras and need some advice on which camera is a better purchase for photographers.

Nikon D80 is a best digital SLR camera for high quality photography. The pictures are more sharper than canon. The camera has a lots of features and good inbuilt quality.

I’m a Nikon shooter and have been for years. The Nikon D80 will work with any Nikon lens made since the 1960s. The fit and feel are wonderful, though that really needs to be a personal decision.

One bit of reference you must read from J.D. Power & Associates:

Notice the ratings in all five areas.

I hope this is helpful for you.

between the two, I would think that the 40D is a better one since they’re both on a different class. I would think the 40D can be compared to a Nikon D300 or something like that.

However keep in mind that the camera is just a tool. A good photographer can shoot a fabulous shoot on a disposable camera while a regular one will only be able to shoot average photo on their Nikon D3 for example. The photographer is what it counts, not the camera.
