New Athlon X2 4200 processor does not work with any currently manufactured cameras?

New Athlon X2 4200 processor does not work with any currently manufactured cameras?

I have an Olympus Camedia C series digital camera, which interfaced fine with my ancient processor.
Recently I had the motherboard upgraded with a new Athlon X2 4200 processor.
Now the computer does not recognize the camera as a peripheral hardware item.
I called Olympus customer support and could not believe my ears! They told me that the 4200 processor won’t interface with any Olympus (or any other brand of) digital camera because the camera manufacturer’s have not made any cameras that “go with” the Athlon 4200 X2 processor technology, and that it would be 1 to 2 being before the camera manufacturers came out with new cameras that would interface with this new processor.
It seems surreal to me that this could be right.
Can anyone out there verify it? Or dispute it with excellent reason & recommendation?

Your processor will have NOTHING to do with your digital camera. It will all be with the In commission System (Windows XP or Vista). Chances are with your new processor and motherboard your drivers aren’t going to be corrent. It doubtless has something to do with your USB drivers.

I am not claiming that it is not possible, but I have over 15 being of computer experience and a computer science degree and I have never ever heard anything like this. I can’t believe Olympus wouldn’t right you.

I’d be willing to bet a significant quantity of money that it can’t be the processor! A Digital Camera interface is going to work at In commission System level… not hardware level!

Then again I could be incorrect!

Most liable, it’s just an issue with the Olympus *drivers* not working with the new motherboard/CPU. Olympus sees no need to upgrade their own drivers, so they blame the CPU. How stupid is that?

Instead, get yourself a USB 2.0 card reader and avoid the issue altogether. Just slip the memory card into the reader. All the device drivers are already in Windows, so it shouldn’t be an issue at all. Your computer will then see the images via the reader, and you won’t need to waste the camera’s battery power.

i agree. if you cant read your camera thru the cable..try putting the mem card in a reader.
of course we are only hearing what you said you heard. i do not beleive oly told you that.

Who have you been talking to, Olympus?

Processors have nothing to do with interfacing with your camera.

“Plug and play” is a function of the in commission system.

Save a lot of grief .. just buy a card reader (that is what us pros do) and be done with it.

I am an MCSE and I will look into that issue, but it seems doubtful …

MORE I just wrote AMD and should have an answer now. I will keep you updated.

UPDATE:
Thank you for contacting AMD Global Customer Care.

I am not entirely sure of everywhere Olympus is getting their information from, but I can assure you that there should not be any incompatibilities between AMD X2 processors and Olympus cameras Ć¢€" it may be related to the software that is bundled with the camera (the photo editing software, etc), but it should certainly not interfere with the cameraĆ¢€™s communication between itself and the computer and the transfer of files.

UPDATE!

The classroom is now open!

We recently started working with La Main Tendre Orphanage to secure the education of the thirty school age kids in the Orphanage's care.

We've already provided desks and school supplies for the free school that the orphanage hosts, and we'll soon build a semi-permanent, transitional classroom on the property. The project’s entire cost will be less than ,250 or EU 898.

When we say a "transitional classroom" we mean a classroom that will be usable and comfortable as is for a digit of being and can later be expanded into a full permanent school.

Transitional classrooms can be built by only a small investment and will ensure education for vulnerable children for being to come.

At the moment we are constructing the classroom's roofing structures on our base and will soon start building at the orphanage. This project is on-going, so keep checking in for updates.

With thanks to our partners here in Haiti GrassRoots United, for their logistical support. For more on GrassRoots United's accomplishments visit them online at www.GrassRootsUnited.org.

I recently picked up a new point and shoot camera. To be more specific, it’s this one: http://www.amazon.com/Olympus-FE-20-Digital-compact-supported/dp/B001E1ECOE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1257631374&sr=8-1
I needed a picture card for it, so I went to Best Buy to get one, a guy there helped me out, but it won’t fit into the camera. I even went online and I got the right kind (it’s this one: http://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-MicroSD-TransFlash-Card-Adapter/dp/B000LTN8CC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1257631546&sr=8-1) so I don’t know what’s up. I have experience with cameras so I know how to insert a card, but it’s not going. Did I end up really getting the incorrect kind?
Thanks guys, I got it all situated now.

Answer by Thorbard
You need to insert the small MicroSD card into the full adaptor, then insert in the way you would insert an xD card, which is what the camera is designed for.

This should have been full with the camera, but if not, you will need to buy one. Alternatively, buy one of the xD picture cards noted.

Putting the MicroSD card into the larger SD adaptor will not fit into the camera.

See page 12 and page 48 of your user manual for details.

Answer by Petra_au
According to the Olympus Website, you can use xD Picture cards or MicroSD (MASD-1 is vital).

Honestly, you would have had less of a headache if you’d just gone with the xD Picture card…

Answer by John M
You should have got a MASD-1 microSD > xD adapter

If you didn’t, they are honestly inexpensive on ebay.
