Help! Questions about old time camcorders vs. digital camcorders?

We have a camcorder that we’ve used for about 9 being or so. We soley use it for taping vacations & holidays. It tapes on those small cartridges & then you can tape them to either VHS tapes or you can get then place on DVD. I want to get a small digital camcorder, like this one which will be on sale at Target:

Here are my questions: I take it these tiny digital camcorders use the same kind of small memory chips that digital cameras use; so then how do I get the film onto a DVD, or a VHS? And will the quality be comparable to the ancient dinosaur camcorder I use now?

As you see they come with a usb cable you can connect to your computer and you can copy and watch them with Windows media player or real player and so on.
Really they might come with a player software too.
Now you’ll be able to record them on DVD with software like Nero or you can checkout the link below.

It has64 mb internal memory that will take a few minutes of video but you can add an sd memory card and I’d get an 8G. It’s groundbreaking new so no one knows if it takes excellent videos.
I’m not sure what kind of software it comes with for downloading and editing. It’s a cheap small camcorder, I hope it’s not crap.

can anyone tell me if there is a port for an external mic?

no external mic connector listed on the specs.

Unfortunately, this camcorder doesn’t offer a port for an external microphone.
