can the canon GL2 create HD quality videos?
I own a canon GL2. I don’t own an HD camera. Can I produce HD quality footage with my canon GL2?
Answer by Rugratzzzzzzzzzzz
No its not an HD camera.
But the quality of the standard definition video is very excellent and will give many HD cameras a excellent run for their money.

It’s not HD but the quality is extremely excellent for not being so. I’ve had my GL2 for about 5 being and have no complaints. The 3CCD’s make all the diff.

the GL2 is not HD in that it has 480 scan shape, not the 1080 scan shape used for HD. Though, it is a very excellent quality camera, better than 99% of the cameras sold as HD to consumers. As to quality of videos, if you distribute your video on DVDs, then it is better than HD cameras. That is because the 480×720 non-square pixel format of miniDV is exactly the same as the 480×720 non-square pixel format used for DVD. So conversion to DVD is superior to that from HD cameras that have to be interpolated down and pixel shape altered. This is the main reason professional videographers continue to use miniDV for many projects.

Hi Ced:
It will produce high quality videos, but they won’t be HD. The quality you will get from this is similar to the wedding video I made for you. Go to B and H to check out a wide array of cameras that go from broadcast quality to normal. Pick out three you like and get back to me.

Taken with the "capture still" feature on my Canon GL2 camcorder.
I’ve heard fantastic things about all the cameras, and have my eye on the GL2 due to its quality and price. But what are the differences between all these?
Thanks!

I’m not huge into video cameras but I do know that the XH1 and XH2 have interchangeable lenses, while the G2 does not.
You’ll have to wait on more knowledgeable members for more info.

Did you mean Canon XH A1,it is a high definition camcorder while Canon GL2 is a standard camcorder. They came with difference lens and image sensor.
Answer by c_j_ryan
The GL2 is an grown-up, discontinued model, shoots only SD, the XH A1/2 and the XH G1/2 shoot in 1080p HD. None of them offer interchangeable lenses, at least not the way the XL series does. The XL series will accept any Canon EF lenses, by an adapter.
The XH series do accept different lenses, but a screw on type over the primary lens.
Like the Wide Converter WD-72, and some other aftermarket lenses.
The difference between the XH A and the XH G series is mostly that the XH G series is SMPTE compliant. And what a deal for only $ 3000 more!
The difference between the 1 and 2 in the XH A and XH G, is just a minor upgrade. For more detailed info see the link.
I have a XH A1.
