Why is it cheaper to get your AT&T phone from Radio Shack than from the actual AT&T store?
Why is it cheaper to get your AT&T phone from Radio Shack than from the actual AT&T store?
Answer by mydogsamutt
At&t will usually sell at full retail, since it is in a sense the producers and probably sells the phone to radio shack. It’s like this if you have a product and you have it mass produced you sell it to stores for $ 5 and it retails for $ 10. How many stores will sell the product if you sell it $ 6 and the only way they can compete is to sell it for $ 5.50 making only .50 cents per sale, and they have to pay all there bills, very few will sell the product. So instead you sell it at your store for $ 10, and wholesale it to other stores for $ 5.00 (so your product gets more exposure , because it is in more stores), they sell it below retail suggested price at $ 9., you will sell a few in your store, but the other stores will sell more, make them happy and they keep putting your product in their store, so it’s kinda a win win for att&t, they sell more products (some with a lower profit, the ones they sold wholesale to other stores), and then the ones they sell in their store. If you look up most major companies web sites (dell, hp, western digital, etc.) that sell their own product it will alsways be at full retail, and if you go to walmart, etc it will always be cheaper for the reason stated above.Hope it helps.

I was at radio shack the other day and came across a wireless router that can connect every computer to the internet, They cost around $ 30.00. I asked the guy at the counter if I need a ISP in order to use the router, he didn’t seem to now what i was talking about.
Do you need a ISP in order to use a wireless card or a wireless router? Like AOL, Earthlink, verizon? Do you have to pay monthly fees to use it?
Does this apply to laptops?

Yep…these are just hardware to connect your computers together, now you’ll need an internet service “provider” to connect you to the internet.

You do need an ISP, yes.
An internet service provider provides your internet, the router branches off the internet to different computers. So yes, you do need internet first before you use it. You also do need a modem as well if you have a DSL or Cable connection.

Well you don’t need an ISP, but if you want to connect to the Internet, obviously you need an “Internet Service Provider”. Just the router alone would allow you to network all the computers at your location.

Yes you need internet access. The wireless router takes your existing internet connection, and broadcasts it to computers within range. But if you don’t have an existing internet connection, it has nothing to broadcast.

Yes!! The router and the wireless card are just the means. You need to have access to Internet and that is why you need a ISP.
