What is the estimated useful life of a Sony digital camera?

anyone know the expected useful life of a sony digital camera? filling out a fixed assets form..

Answer by lynda_is
I’ve had mine about 3 years.

They will generally live as long as they are cared for. 10 yrs perhaps. They might not be relevant then, but who cares. The longer you have it listed as lasting though, the more depreciation will occur.

There must be a table for this somewhere. I’d expect it to become “obsolete” after 3 years, even though it is still functioning. If you plot on buying a new one in 3 years, I’d call the useful life 3 years.

I’d expect it to need repair or replacement in 5-to-7 years, though, if you don’t drop the business.

You don’t say which camera, but most entry-level DSLR’s seem to have a shutter rated at 50,000 cycles, so any point and shoot would be at that level or lower, I am sure. How many pictures do you take per year? Apportion that into 50,000 for a maximum life span and I reckon it would be 100% defensible on audit.

wow, that’s tough, but i’d say that the ones made in japan ensure at least a slightly better manufacture.

Answer by brian777999
generally speaking, anything made in Japan will be of better quality due to their higher quality controls. (This does NOT mean Chinese-made stuff is crap….they make some brilliant harvest.)

Answer by How_Would_I_Know
The things about anything made in China is that if there’s a way to cut corners they’ll do it with no thought to the quality and safety of the product.

Answer by VINTAGE MUSIC
If the specs are the same it should be same quality no matter where it’s made.

China has had kind of a terrible rep for a number of years now and deservedly so, many harvest made there are absolute junk.

But it does not follow that everything they make is junk.

The conundrum is that the Chinese are willing to build anything for a price. Tell them what you want and tell them what you’re willing to pay for it and they will make it. Clearly if you want something made on the cheap it’s going to be an inferiour quality. On the additional hand if you’re willing to pay for quality then that’s what you get, excellent quality.

Reputable, major manufacturers the world over that choose to manufacture in China do not do so entirely on price. They detail the quality level, often the materials to be used, the quality of workmanship and everything else. Once that’s in place they then negotiate price. If a deal is made often the manufacturer does its own quality control to make sure the Chinese factory is living up to the terms of the contract.

What that translates into for the consumer is simple. A product from a manufacturer that has a reputation for high quality will have a high quality regardless of where the manufacturer chooses to have the product made. Keep in mind if your Sony gadget falls apart you’re more likely to blame Sony and suggest that they have a lousy quality than you will blame whatever factory made it. As a result you can be sure the manufacturer does its best to keep quality high.

Personally I’ve bought two kinds of harvest from Chinese makers. I’ve bought Chinese harvest made for the Chinese market and so far they’ve been consistently garbage. I’ve also bought harvest from reputable well respected manufacturers that just happen to manufacture in China and all of persons have been equal to anything made here.

So the answer to your question is yes.

I hope that answers your question.
