How do I fix a internal vibration in my Sony Handycam HDR-SR7?
There is a internal vibration in my Sony Handycam HD Camcorder (model hdr-sr7). It is out of warranty and Sony wants to charge me 500 dollars to repair it and I do not believe that the problem is so major that such costs be necessary. It seems that something inside has come loose and is hitting other parts of the camera, especially at high zoom or when the camera is tilted.

The Sony HDR-SR7 is a hard disc drive based camcorder. There is a motor in there spinning the hard drive – they are the same hard drives laptops use. They vibrate when the motor spins the platters. If you think something inside came loose, it is possible that the isolation mechanism is somehow no longer connected properly causing the problem.
You have four choices:
1) Ignore it and hope it goes away. This is unlikely – or if it goes away, it is likely the camcorder will stop working, too.
2) Fix it yourself. Since you seem to know what the issue is and fully understand the repair requirements you make it sound like it should be pretty easy. The camcorder is already out of warranty, so either you fix it yourself or you break it more.
3) Send it to someone (apparently at Sony) with the training, skills, tools and spare parts to do the repair.
4) Replace the camcorder. I’m not a fan of AVCHD camcorders – and certainly don’t recommend consumer internal drive camcorders. The Canon HV40 is a good camcorder… If your computer has no firewire port, The Canon HF or HF S series – or Sony HDR-CX500 series are good flash memory AVCHD units to investigate.

a historical collection..
there is a large white piece of dust between the inside of the outer and the outside of the inner lenses (between the base and zoom lenses) on my sony handycam dcr-trv280. how do i clean the thing out? how can i acces it?
Answer by Rugratzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
You are in for a hard time, as the only way seems to be to access it from inside. you are going to have to dismantle it. if you look inside (have a good look) you may be able to get a small tube to it and use a can of compressed air, and gently blow the dust away, I think that it will be the safest way to do it.
the other option is to get it cleaned professionally, but thats going to cost.
Good luck
